April was 17 when she woke up from a coma to find out she was pregnant.

Imagine waking up from a coma, to be confronted with the news you are pregnant. Now imagine being 17, and having to be told every day.

Last year, 17-year-old April Gillen was discovered unconscious on the side of the road near Wollongong, NSW.

What was originally thought to be a hit-and-run, turned out to be a horrific attempted kidnapping that would leave April-Lee in a coma for two weeks.

When she awoke, April-Lee faced the shocking news that she was pregnant.

“I woke up from my coma and [April’s sister] goes, ‘April you’re pregnant did you know that?’ and I said ‘Am I pregnant? Oh my goodness!’” she told A Current Affair, last night.

“And then I would forget because I had that thing still where I’d forget each day.”

Suffering from short-term memory loss, April-Lee would have to be reminded daily that she was carrying a child.

Police allege April-Lee was dragged into a black BMW SUV, after she left her boyfriend’s house on April 20, last year.

Upon leaving her boyfriend’s house at around 10.30pm, she sent out a Facebook status asking for someone to get her because a man had stopped in his car and told her to come home with him.

It is believed this person attempted to kidnap her, but April-Lee escaped from the car, rolling into a gutter where she was discovered hours later.

She was promptly rushed to hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for a fractured ankle, a collapsed lung and a subdural hemorrhage in her brain.

She was placed in an induced coma for two weeks, before eventually waking to the news that she was pregnant.

April-Lee gave birth to baby boy, Jacobie, on Christmas Eve last year.

The alleged kidnappers have not been found, and her family and police are asking for information.
