How to travel home safely from Melbourne's CBD this evening.

Melbourne residents have been told to avoid the CBD for the rest of the afternoon and tonight by Victorian Police following today’s incident in Bourke Street.

A “rogue driver” sped through the busy mall around 2pm this afternoon.

Three people have been confirmed dead and more than 20 are injured. The man responsible has been arrested but the investigation is still ongoing.

Much of the city has been in lock-down since the incident. And the Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police Graham Ashton told a press conference that many locations will be sealed off throughout the night as police continue their investigations.

“The crime scene itself will take many hours to process. I would ask that people are patient in that regard because we currently have sealed off the corner of Flinders and Swanston Street, up to Bourke and then the entirety of Bourke Street from the Swanston Street intersection, up past to the  intersection just past William Street,” he said.

“If you’re anticipating coming into the city tonight, I would discourage you from coming anywhere near those particular locations because they will be sealed off. Your ability to get in and out of that area will be severely limited. ”

For those commuting home from work this Friday afternoon, here’s some information for getting home safely.
