Matty reveals what it was like reliving his heartbreak on The Bachelorette last night.

Bachelorette runner-up Matty’s reaction to the news that he had not won Georgia’s heart was one of the most raw reality television moments Australia has ever seen.

If the 30-year-old Sydney-sider had not already won your heart, surely you wanted to give him a hug after you saw Matty’s emotional response to being rejected? It was just so relatable.

In case you missed it, the tear-jerking moment went like this:

“I came here to fall in love and I have,” Georgia told a hopeful Matty.”It”s just with someone else.”

Matty’s face dropped suddenly, he took a deep breath and shut his eyes. He quickly covered his eyes with the palm of his hands and massaged his temples. He was clearly on the verge of tears.

Listen to Amy Cooper and Laura Brodnik discuss whether Georgia made the right choice on the ‘Bach Chat’ podcast. (Post continues after audio.)

Sniffling, Matty let go of Georgia’s hands and as if he was kicked in the stomach, crouched over and rubbed his knees.

It’s a moment that anyone who has been heartbroken knows too well. The moment that the heartbreak literally knocks you over.

Fans of The Simpsons, may have noticed a heart-breaking similarity between Matty’s reaction and the moment Lisa Simpson rejected Ralph Wiggum on television.

Matty told Mamamia that it was not just a case of clever editing that made that moment appear to gut-wrenching. The heartbreak was very real.

“A friend of mine sent me a really funny meme where on one side there was Ralph from the Simpsons and the other side is a photo of me with my hands on my knees…it was so true, literally that moment was so painful,” Matty told Mamamia.

He watched the finale with his protective sister who we all met on the show during Georgia’s hometown visits.

“I was at my sister’s house with her husband,” Matty said. “My sister was crying a fair bit at that moment, when I dropped my hands on my knees and she was really upset.”

“My sister knows how much it meant to me and how upset I was when I came back.”

“But as best as I could explain it, she had no idea what it was like to be me in that moment.”

Our hearts go out to you today, Matty. And, just quietly, #MattyforBachelor2017
