A Married at First Sight bride "lost family members and friends" for going on the show.

Deborah, 53, is set to be married on the upcoming series of Channel 9’s Married at First Sight. 

She will walk down the aisle to face a man she does not yet know, and the guest list to her wedding will include some glaring absences.

The former model opened up to TheFIX, explaining her decision to star on the fourth season of MAFS caused a lot of conflict with family and friends. She lost relationships because of it.

“With my family, it caused a lot of mixed emotions, because everybody had their opinions about the show,” she said.

“Actually, I lost [family] members and friends, and I’d never had that happen before, because people have really strong beliefs in this area.”

Deborah has never been married, and doesn't have any children. She said the reason for the pushback was sometimes personal, and other times it was more to do with the show.

"Just because of their moral beliefs, maybe some religious, some who didn't like the show. It's a controversial show."

Deborah said her modelling career prevented her from settling down before now.

"We weren't allowed to fall pregnant," she said, referring to the modelling industry. "We had to be ready to go every time they rang. We weren't to have anything to hold us back."

"At the time I was so involved in my career, and I loved what I was doing. When you're involved in all of that, it's a fast pace, so there's no time to sit back and relax and think about these things."

Deborah admitted to TheFIX that dating was becoming harder and harder at her age, and online dating — one of the more popular options among her peers — wasn't appealing to her.

"Married at First Sight has not just been a show to me. I have always watched it and believed in the process and trusted the producers and the experts to find true love," she added.
