Even after 54 years since her death, Marilyn Monroe’s star power is still as potent as ever.
And during those 54 years, rumours have swirled continuously about the actress’s love life – the loudest being that the star was involved with US president John F. Kennedy’s brother Bobby Kennedy.
Now, a recently made public letter to Monroe written in the early 1960s by Jean Kennedy Smith, John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy’s sister, has given us what we’ve all been hoping for.
PROOF.
According to The Telegraph the letter says:
“Understand that you and Bobby are the new item! We all think you should come with him when he comes back East!”
The rumours about Monroe and Kennedy started in the 1960s when Bobby Kennedy was the Attorney General of the United States under his brother John F. Kennedy.
He was also married to Ethel Kennedy and had 11 children.
For years, the press (and the right wing US government) tried to catch the starlet and the politician together, but though there was a lot of anecdotal evidence, they were never able to come up with anything concrete.
Eventually the story changed and the focus moved to the alleged affair between Monroe and President Kennedy.

The letter, along with other famous items of Monroe’s, including the original naked dress she wore to sing “Happy Birthday” to President Kennedy in 1962, her dress from the film Some Like It Hot, and a cheque book showing payments to a window cleaner and the phone company are being auctioned off on November 17th at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California.
Martin Nolan, the executive director of Julien’s Auctions told The Telegraph the letter is especially interesting.
“There’s always speculation about her relationship with the Kennedys” he said.”This speaks to the fact that there was in fact a relationship between Bobby Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.”
Despite all the rumour, what we can be sure of is that this new secret letter only deepens the mystique surrounding the iconic starlet.
