Mariah Carey breaks her silence about her split with James Packer on Ellen.

Pop star extraordinaire Mariah Carey has told Ellen Degeneres that she finds her highly publicised split from Australian billionaire James Packer last month “difficult to talk about”.

The appearance on Degeneres’ talk show on Wednesday was the 46-year-old “Hero” singer’s first interview since rumours that infidelity and lavish spending drove the couple apart hit tabloids.

But the mother-of-two, to fraternal twins Moroccan and Monroe, has hinted the gossip is simply that, telling the live audience: “Now it’s a whole freaking thing.”

The last couple of months has been a tumultuous time for the hitmaker, with ex-husband Nick Cannon also recently announcing he is expecting a baby with on-off girlfriend, Brittany Bells.

Despite this, Mariah, who currently lives between Los Angeles and New York, said: “I think I am doing well.” (Post continues after gallery.)

“Everything happens for a reason. Things are the way they are,” she added.

Mariah also hinted towards another interesting piece of information - that James originally agreed to be filmed for her upcoming reality series, Mariah's World, before demanding he be edited out entirely.

When the pop star was prodded about the gossip, she replied: “allegedly".

The discussion proved to be an uncomfortable one for Mariah, who swiftly pushed the interview in another direction.

“It is difficult to talk about at the moment so I am going to compliment you on these decorations because they are fabulous," she said.

The star-studded couple began dating in June 2015, with James proposing some seven months later in January. They reportedly split on a recent trip to Mykonos, Greece, leaving the $10 million 35-carat engagement ring on Mariah's finger a hot topic.

The singer has reportedly requested an "inconvenience fee" of $50 million, explaining she cancelled the South American leg of her tour to be by James' side and opened business deals for him.
