Many are calling it “hilarious” and “the best birthday present”, but in reality? This is real life revenge porn.

There is no excuse for cheating.

That much is obvious, and the feelings of betrayal upon discovering that someone you have known for a short or long period of time has emotionally or physically been with another would be completely devastating.

BUT. But.

Even with these feelings of betrayal and anger and hurt that come with the discovery of cheating, there is also no excuse for seeking the type of revenge one man admitted to on a recent Reddit thread.

Calling it “birthday present to ex-wife”, a man described how he threw a surprise party to catch his cheating wife in the act.

It was just him, his wife, his wife’s lover and several of her friends as well as her mum and dad.

~Hilarious~ so far, right?

The Redditor, Itsme03, desribed the lead up to his decision.

He explained he made his decision after a fairly unconvincing lie from his partner,

After explaining that she didn’t want a birthday party and that he should go away for her birthday weekend instead, Itsme03 hatched his plan.

This is how he said it went down.

Let me be clear.

I am in no way endorsing her behaviour, or suggesting cheating is OK. I believe it is, and will always be unacceptable. But that “birthday present” is also completely and utterly wrong.

Shaming and publicly embarrassing someone in front of their family and friends in that way is completely out of line and inexcusable. Whether it is done by posting revenge porn on websites of ex-partners, or creating a scenario in which friends and family walk in on them, it is a huge violation of their privacy and their bodies.

Having said this, Itsme03 did have a more moderate response in a subsequent reply to a commenter.
