I’ll kick us off.
Yesterday at the Mamamia Sydney office, we had our flu shots. I was terrified.
It’s not only the shot itself that freaks me out – although needles aren’t at the top of my list of favourite things – but also the pressure of being forced to answer questions from the nurse about my medical history.
I’m never sure whether I’m oversharing or undersharing or going to accidentally leave out an important life-threatening detail. Which leaves to conversations like this:
Nurse: Have you taken any medications today?
Me: No, I’m not on any medications.
Nurse: Ok, well, we’ll just get started –
Me: WAIT! I actually took some Sudafed this morning. Is that bad? And some Panadol. I have a bit of a cold at the moment. Would you call throat lozenges ‘medication’? And I took three vitamin C tablets yesterday. Was that too many? Is that okay? Can I still get the shot?
Then I told her about the time I had an anaphylactic reaction in a PDHPE classroom in high school. I mean, you don’t want to leave any of this stuff out.
After I embarrassed myself thoroughly, I got the shot.
It wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected, and it came with a bonus lollipop at the end. (Full disclosure: I’m now on my third lollipop of the day).
Hopefully, I’m now in for a flu-free season.
