Meet the woman who posts photos of dead bodies on Instagram.

She has over 400,000 followers.

Warning: There are images in this post that are very, very disturbing to look at. Please proceed with caution. We’re not kidding.

While your feed may be made up of half-naked photos of celebrities, jealousy-inducing holiday snaps and a never-ending stream of selfies, there’s one Instagram account that makes the violence in Game of Thrones look like a Disney show.

Nicole Angemi is a pathology assistant from America who has over 400,000 followers on her personal Instagram account. Between the postings of her beautiful family are graphic images of dead bodies, internal organs and infections.

She specialises in autopsies — and she’s not afraid to share her professional life with her social network.

“To me, this is all about education,” she told Vice.

“It’s not about exploiting anybody.”

You can watch a Vice interview with Nicole on her career and Instagram below. Post continues after video.

While the photos themselves are hard to look at, it’s her detailed descriptions that generate the most interest. From descriptions on how blood pools in the body after death, to captions that showcase the intricate work of preparing a body for burial, they are morbidly fascinating.

One of the most confronting themes of Angemi’s Instagram is photos of foetuses, either miscarried or aborted. As she says, she isn’t sharing these to upset women who may have gone through something similar. She’s sharing them to let them know they aren’t alone.

“I just want to show women, ‘you’re normal, this happens to everyone, it’s totally normal’.”

And while her page has been deleted multiple times – and each popular photo is inevitably reported – she believes it’s important to share photos of the human body like this.

“If someone wants to see what an autopsy looks like, why can’t they have access to that?” Angemi told Vice.
