Sometimes world-changing ideas come from everyday problems.

11-year-old Olivia has an eye for improving things.

“My dad was always complaining about having to mow the lawn,” she said. “So I found an easier way to mow the lawn.”

Yeah, she makes it sound easy. But this seed of an idea became a stroke of genius when her school encouraged her to enter Origin’s littleBIGidea competition. The final concept? A solar powered lawn mower (with 360 degree rotating wheels).

Did we mention Olivia is 11?

While in a few years Olivia will be studying in high school, her ultimate dream is to become a vet. And with her smarts, we’re sure she’ll get there soon.

Here are seven other super high-achieving kids that will make you feel pretty inadequate.

1. Nadia Comăneci.

At the age of 14, Nadia became the youngest person to win an Olympic gymnastics event. Her performances at the 1976 Montreal Olympics were the first to score perfect tens. She retired in 1981 and went on to teach in her native Romania, before defecting in 1989. She has since married American gymnast Bart Conner, and continues a career in gymnastics commentary.

2. Nolan Gould.

You may not know that this Modern Family star is actually kind of a genius. At the ripe old age of 13, Nolan has already graduated high school, and plays the banjo, sitar, didgeridoo and double bass. Oh, that’s right, he’s also a certified genius and member of Mensa – a society for people with high IQs (Nolan’s is 150). Somewhat ironically, most of you would know Nolan as the daft but loveable Luke Dunphy on Modern Family.

3. Tavi Gevinson.

Tavi drew international recognition at the age of 12 for her blog Style Rookie. By the age of 15 she created one of the most well-known websites for teen girls in the world — Rookie Mag. Tavi is now branching out into acting, recently with a role in a Broadway play opposite Michael Cera and Kieran Culkin.

4. Noah Gray-Cabey.

You may have seen Noah before in the millennial sitcom My Wife and Kids as the delightful Franklin – the adorable love-struck kindergartener. But Noah is actually a piano prodigy, leading orchestras internationally before he was five years old. Now, he’s continuing his acting career, with a little side project… studying at HARVARD.

5. Anna Paquin.

Anna Paquin was the second youngest person to win an Oscar for her performance in The Piano at the age of 11. She has since continued to act as the star of True Blood, which gained her a Best Actress Golden Globe.

6. Jesse ‘Lionheart’ Martin.

Most Aussies will remember Jesse as the youngest person to sail around the world solo at the age of 17. Now, Jesse runs a media production company from his home in Melbourne, and has an adventure sailing business in Papua New Guinea. He was also awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2002.

7. Kelvin Doe.

Kelvin is from Sierra Leone and taught himself to be an engineer by the age of 13. He is entirely self-taught, and used to rummage through garbage to find scraps he could use to fix and use to create machines. He eventually made his own FM radio transmitter, which he uses to entertain and broadcast to his small community.

At the age of 15, Kelvin was the youngest person to be invited to assist at MIT, and also delivered lectures at Harvard and TEDxTeen. More recently, Kelvin secured a $100,000 deal to create solar panels for a Canadian-based energy company.

Wow.

Were you a high-achiever as a child? What areas did you excel in?

The 2014 Origin littleBIGidea competition winners won a trip to NASA and we are very jealous…
