Combining food and fashion, Gretchen Röehrs is a deliciously fabulous illustrator.

Welcome to Mamamia’s art endeavour, the Voulez-Vous Project. Every week we celebrate emerging artists, designers, illustrators, creators and cats who dress like their owners (not joking). Our aim: to help the internet become a slightly more beautiful, captivating, or thought-provoking place by making art accessible.

In the world of art on Instagram, there is so much of the same-same-but-kind-of-different stuff out there. But occasionally you stumble upon something so unique and amazing and wonderous you want to throw your hands in the air and celebrate with a thousand ‘joy’ emojis.

Introducing Gretchen Röehrs. She is an artist. And she combines two of my most favourite things on this planet. Food. And fashion.

In the ever-expanding crowd of artists on Instagram, Röehrs stands out with her whimsical illustrations – a few dashes of ink, a few carefully placed edibles – and voila – you have some seriously incredible artwork.

Looks good enough to eat, no?

Röehrs studied fashion design at Stephens College in Columbia, where she developed her illustration style, and is now based in California.

After a friend moved away, he told her he missed the produce in California, so she began sending him pictures of her lunch and began drawing around it. Which evolved into the work she does today. Delicious.

She uses everything from mushrooms, to croissants, and every illustration is equally whimsical and unique. Check out some of her amazing work below – and you can see more of it on her Instagram and website.
