Radio station that dumped Chrissie Swan, decide they hadn't yet been mean enough.

Is this the radio KIIS of death?

Remember last year when presenter Chrissie Swan, 41, was unceremoniously sacked from her breakfast radio gig?

Well, now her former employers are really rubbing it in.

It’s day one of the radio ratings year and already the hunger games have begun, with KIIS FM sticking the boot into their ex-presenter. The Herald Sun went along to the launch of the new station and had this to report:

Jane Hall was Chrissie Swan’s former radio partner in delightful audio crime and widely reported to have gotten the gig in the first place because of her friend and colleague. Ouch.

way harsh

The Australian Radio Network popped the champers on KIIS 101.1 today, a new station replacing Melbourne’s Mix 101.1.  They presumably also feasted on the remains of Swan, who with Jane Hall, partnered the breakfast show on Mix  for 3 years, including a stint at number one last year.

Chrissie Swan speaks about shock radio axing.

The popular presenter, who won a Logie in 2011 for Most Popular New Female Talent, was dumped in November when the station realised they had accidentally put two women on a breakfast show.

LOL jokes. They didn’t give a reason.

But in all seriousness, radio programs across the country do seem to have a distinct peanut allergy type aversion to ever casting two women together. Especially two strong, opinionated and funny women like Chrissie and Jane.

They’ve now reverted back to a male/female format, recruiting comedian Matt Tilley to co-host with Hall, and launching a “fresh new direction” in line with every other breakfast radio show which has a male and female radio partnership.

Ahead of the debut show today, Tilley showed how manly he was, posting an image of his jocks.

And Jane reminded the listeners that she was a woman by posting shots of her drinking bubbles and having shiny nails.

ARN national content manager Duncan Campbell told the Herald Sun today that Hall was always his pick over Swan.  Because, you know, you can’t have two talented women (see peanut allergy comparison above).

“I sensed when I met Jane three-and-a-half years ago that there was real potential for her to be a radio star,”Campbell said.

ARN CEO Ciaran Davis said Hall, with co-host Matt Tilley they were a match made in heaven.

“It was like Matt and Jane had been on air for the last 20 years.”

Ouch. Again.

“Screw ‘em, Chrissie Swan. We’re with you all the way”.

So the players gonna play play play play play.

Meanwhile, 41-year-old Swan, who is presumably enjoying a sleep in and time with her absurdly adorable children, is busy firming up other projects, hinting yesterday to a fan that she will be back sooner rather than later.

Well you know what they say, Chrissie. Success is the best revenge.

Also, saying ‘Seeya, wouldn’t wanna be ya’ comes a close second.

All this is merely a preview for what many are expecting to be a volatile year in radio. With KIIS 101.1 scrambling to replicate the success of the Sydney program (which propelled Kyle and Jackie O to number one in their first survey), and kingpins Hamish and Andy returning to the drive show on Austereo in July, we can expect a few more radio waves.

Chrissie Swan’s most honest interview yet: “It was hard to take.”
