The one Caitlyn Jenner story no-one is talking about.

It’s not pretty.

Caitlyn Jenner was involved in a four-car accident in California in February that she was lucky to walk away from.

A woman named Kimberley Howe, 69, was not so lucky. She died when Jenner’s Cadillac four-wheel drive hit her from behind, pushing her car into oncoming traffic. She was hit by another four-wheel drive and died at the scene.

Jenner released the following statement after the accident:

“My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy, and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible.”

Now, Jenner is being sued by two of Howe’s step-children, as well as another driver, Jessica Steindorff, who says Jenner was driving “negligently, carelessly, recklessly and wantonly”.

“We did determine in the investigation that Jenner was going at an unsafe speed for the prevailing conditions, even though he was traveling under the posted speed limit,” Detective Richard Curry told CNN. (At the time of the crash, Jenner was identifying as Bruce Jenner)

Steindorff has spoken about her disappointment that Jenner was awarded the ESPY for courage.

“I find it difficult to understand how the culture we live in can honor a person who is responsible for taking a life and injuring several others with both an award and a reality show,” Steindorff told ET.

Jenner was awarded the ESPY award for courage recently.

“I would hope that someone who seems to greatly value the importance of human existence would be more sensitive to the fact that she ended another person’s life. Sadly we are living in a tabloid society,” Steindorff told ET.

It does seem as though Caitlin Jenner’s highly publicised gender transition has overshadowed the fatal accident she was involved in that killed a woman and injured others.

The LA Sheriff’s department is recommending Caitlyn Jenner be charged misdemeanour with vehicular manslaughter.

If charged and convicted, she will face up to 12 months in prison or a fine.

It seems like a light penalty for actions that may have cost someone her life, but Jenner isn’t the only celebrity to have been involved in a fatal accident.

Hollywood stars including singer/actress Brandy, Matthew Broderick and Rebecca Gayheart have all been involved in car accidents resulting in death and faced consequences that seem unequal to their actions.

Brandy Norwood

The singer and actress was involved in an accident that killed 38-year-old mother-of-two Awatef Aboudihaj in 2006. She failed to stop when approaching a traffic jam on a Los Angeles freeway and hit Aboudihaj’s car at more than 100km/hour.

According to E! California Highway Patrol recommended a charge of misdemeanour vehicular manslaughter, but prosecutors didn’t pursue the charge. Norwood was sued by Aboudihaj’s family. They settled out of court.

“Being involved in something that tragic… I couldn’t believe it. I don’t like to think about it because I don’t think that’s something I could ever get over or ever truly understand, but that was one of the worst times in my life,” she told Oprah in 2014.

Lane Garrison

The actor best known for playing David “Tweener” Apolskis on Prison Break was involved in an accident that killed a teenage boy.

IN 2006, Garrison met two teenagers at a supermarket who asked the star to come to a party with them. So he did. He went, got drunk, then left with three teens in his car to get more booze.

Garrison jumped a curb in his Land Rover and hit a tree, killing Vaughn Setian, 17, and injuring two 15-year-old girls.

In May 2007, he pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter, DUI and providing alcohol to a minor, and was sentenced to 40 months prison.

He was released in 2009 for good behaviour.

In 2013, he was charged with domestic battery for hitting his then-girlfriend Ashley Mattingly. He avoided jail with a plea deal.

Rebecca Gayheart

Gayheart was a big star in the ’90s, starring in teen films Jawbreaker, Scream 2 and Urban Legend, AND as Luke Perry’s love interest on 90210.

In 2001, she hit nine-year-old Jorge Cruz, Jr, in her car while he was crossing the road. He died from his injuries.

She was charged with vehicular manslaughter and pleaded no contest. She was sentenced to three years probation, had her license suspended, paid a $2,800 fine and served 750 hours of community service.

Matthew Broderick

In 1987, the year after filming Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Broderick was driving a rented BMW in Northern Ireland with his then-girlfriend Jennifer Grey.

He crossed over into the wrong lane and crashed into a Volvo driven by Anna Gallagher, 28. She and her mother Margaret Doherty, 63, were both killed at the scene.

Broderick sustained a broken leg and a collapsed lung.

He was charged with causing death by dangerous driving but later convicted of the lesser crime of careless driving, and fined $175.

The family of Gallagher and Doherty called it “a travesty of justice”.

Do you think that Caitlyn Jenner deserves to be charged over her fatal incident?
