Why you should wear make up to the gym.

There’s nothing wrong with choosing to wear makeup at the gym. I used to. When my skin was covered in acne scars from my teenage years I never left the house with at least a little light coverage, not just out of vanity but because it looked like I had chicken pox.

And I didn’t want everyone to think I was infecting them.

Okay. Yes … and vanity.

Still, it’s a bit harsh of Khloe Kardashian to suggest that anyone who doesn’t wear makeup while they workout is ‘a slob’. No, I haven’t taken her comment out of context. I’m a Khloe fan as well. She is my favourite Kardashian but she did tell Shape magazine, ‘Just because you are going to work out, you don’t have to look like a slob.’

But I love looking like a slob. Being able to leave the house sans makeup, totally disheveled, to get sweaty during a workout is one of my favourite things to do because there was a time when the thought was terrifying to me. I feel like a more evolved person because I can leave the house looking like crap and not have a meltdown when I bump into someone I know.

This is me, warts and all.

IN DEFENSE OF SLOBS!

Khloe Kardashian spoke about her recent weight loss on Live with Kelly and Michael. Article continues after this video.

I’m not a Kardashian and in particular I’m not Khloe Kardashian who is often on the receiving end of pretty nasty treatment at the hands of the judgmental who call her “fat” and “ugly” in response to her appearance.

That’s probably why she has to get all dressed up when she goes to the gym.

That’s why she’s embraced it and wears cute outfits, makeup and earrings.

That’s why she takes all of those selfies.

There is no should or shouldn’t when it comes to getting all dressed up to work out. There isn’t any right or wrong. It’s all about doing what makes you happy, what makes you comfortable, what makes you able to enjoy your workout.

Khloe says she gets a better workout when she feels as though she's looking good. She told Shape she not only puts on makeup but often wears large hoop earrings as well.

"When I buy a cute outfit, I’m superexcited to go to the gym the next day. And when I look good at the gym, I’m inspired to do an extra squat or an extra lunge."

She added, "I also always wear hoop earrings; they’re like my security blanket. I’m inspired to do an extra squat or an extra lunge. People laugh at me, but why not? They make me feel more dressed up. I also wear makeup when I work out. I put on a tinted moisturizer, mascara, and cherry lip balm, and fill in my eyebrows. If I feel cuter with a little lip color and mascara, why should anybody else care?"

And that's why I choose not to wear makeup when I work out, or hoop earrings, or cute clothes, because I get a better workout when I don't care how I look and to be honest if I don't exercise hard enough to melt my makeup, to constantly bump into my hoop earrings or to drench my workout clothes in sweat I am probably wasting my time.

That is if I am exercising for health as opposed to creating selfie opportunities, which thank goodness I don't have to do.

The best thing about not being a celebrity is being able to look like shit and not get any heat for it.

Still, it must be hard to be Khloe. She's copping it more than anyone when it comes to her appearance. I'd just love it though if she didn't let it get to her, if she just didn't care, if she owned her inner slob, on behalf of all of us who have looked like slobs more often than the average Kardashian.

Plus I once read that it's bad for your skin to exercise with makeup on because when your skin heats up your pores open and just suck all of the stuff that's sitting on top of your skin in, clogging up your pores and causing devastating eruptions that will end in even more scarring.

But at least you looked good while you were working out.
