4. Donald Trump slams media outlets for reporting “fake news” about his links to Russia.

US President-elect Donald Trump has slammed media outlets for reporting “fake news” that Russia had damaging personal and financial information about him and was holding it against him.

In a press conference, Trump told journalists that reports that he was “cultivated” by Russia were untrue and attacked the media outlets that reported on the alleged leaked document, CNN and BuzzFeed.

“Buzzfeed is a failing pile of garbage and they’re going to pay the consequences,” Trump said.

“I think it’s a disgrace that information would be let out.

“It’s all fake news, it’s phony stuff, it doesn’t happen…”

Two US officials said on Tuesday that the allegations were contained in a memo attached to a report on Russian interference in the 2016 election that was presented last week to Trump and to President Barack Obama.

The 35-page dossier lays out all of the allegations, including that the Russian regime “has been cultivating, supporting and assisting Trump for at least five years”, News.com.au reports.

Trump’s policy to strengthen US ties to Russia had been criticised after US intelligence agencies concluded that Russia used cyber attacks and other tactics to try to help Trump win over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
