The little white lie every parent has used at least once.

Sometimes we need to pull a few strings to get a bit of time to ourselves.

For example, do you find yourself almost jogging to buy your lunch each day? Just slow down a bit, maybe stroll even, and take the long way. Typing away on your computer? Nobody needs to know you’re just updating your Facebook status or Tweeting your thoughts on Gwyneth’s latest diet advice. You can say you’re ‘working’. Yeah, working at getting some time to yourself!

What about your car, your little cocoon from which you emerge numerous times each week. Can you drive around the block until your favourite song finishes? Can you sit in your warm car and close your eyes for five minutes?

It’s sad that we sometimes have to find sneaky ways to get a break from our day but that shouldn’t stop you from doing it as often as you can. In fact, there are lots of things we can do each day to get a sneaky break and not all of them involve telling lies to loved ones. Actually, ‘lies’ is a bit harsh. Let’s call them fibs. There you go. That’s better.

In part four of our eight-part 5 to 9 diaries, we ask, “What are the sneaky things you do each day to get a break?”

Some of these are just genius!

What are the sneaky things you do each day to get a break?

NESCAFÉ Café Menu® Team, has acknowledged that the modern Australian woman is busier and working longer hours than ever before.

Research shows that the traditional 9 to 5 workday does not exist; instead 5 to 9 is a better reflection of modern women today.

To salute the heroic efforts of women and encourage them to take a moment for themselves, we have re-recorded the classic song, ‘9 to 5’ and created a music video showcasing all the challenges women deal with in their 5 to 9 day.
