I have a really good body… for a 13-year-old girl.
I am not a 13-year-old girl. I am a 28-year-old man.
My body does not resemble that of a man, so I decided a few months ago it was time to get massive.
It was time to create some beautiful muscles.
But here’s the thing. I hate going to the gym. I really hate it.
I can’t believe there is people on this planet that excitedly announce that they “just love going to the gym!“
Shut up.
The gym smells weird and is full of people with muscles in areas of their bodies I didn’t know existed.
I am convinced the staff at my gym KILL people that don’t have muscles … there is no other explanation.
EVERYONE is the “after shot” or “the final reveal” montage on a biggest loser season finale episode. At my Gym no one is the before shot. WHERE ARE THE BEFORE SHOTS AT THE GYM?
Sigh.
Going to the gym is a massive daily struggle for me. I go through a range of emotions before I walk through the gym door (or HELL’S GATE as I like to call it).
If you are like me and love a good excuse to skip the gym I have compiled a list of my favourites.
20 REASONABLE EXCUSES TO SKIP THE GYM TODAY
1. I’ll go tomorrow
2. I went yesterday
3. A friend once told me that they overheard someone say they know someone that read somewhere that working out too much can kill you.
4. I might miss an important phone call
5. I’ll go tomorrow
6. It’s probably closed (it isn’t)
7. I might get asthma if I work out too much (you won’t)
8. It might rain and the road might flood and I’ll get trapped in my car and die
9. I’ll go tomorrow
10. I haven’t had breakfast
11. My runners are dirty
12. I’ll meditate instead (i.e. have a nap)
13. I’ll go tomorrow
14. I’ve been thinking about working out all morning, the brain is a body part therefore I have worked out already
15. I sneezed yesterday. I might be getting a cold, best I stay in
16. The roof of the gym might suddenly collapse and kill everyone who is working out at that time, including me, best I stay in
17. YouTube
18. My house might get broken into, best I stay in
19. The Carbon Tax
20. I’ll go tomorrow
I hope this reasonable list helps you as much as it helps me.
If you don’t want to go to the gym today, relax, just don’t go!
There’s always tomorrow.

Hilarious… 20 great reason not to go to the gym, heaps of great reasons to get fit and healthy for life (gyms not compulsory). Maybe PT is more your game. Healthy is a way of life!

Hubby’s fave is “if you’re fit you don’t need to exercise, if you’re not fit exercise will kill you”.
For me, exercise is a dirty word and now I must go wash my mouth out with chocolate!
PS. I’ve always hated gyms too. I’d rather just go for a walk…
loading...
I don’t have any real exercise clothes.
And why is that?
I don’t go to the gym enough to need them. The circle is complete.

Another one to add to the list – I’m busy watching season 5 of gossip girl or secret circle…

love the article….love nath!

I’m one of those annoying people that loves the gym but I also love this post – hilarious!

I just got home from the gym and read this…..hysterical! Glad I didn’t read it before I went.
Unfortunately #6 doesn’t work in my case, 24-7 gym.
I used to be a Personal Trainer/Group Fitness instructor, I wish I had of had this to give my clients back in the day.
Fitness is as much about fun as anything else

Funny article! My biggest excuse for not going to the gym is that I’m already 2 glasses of wine down and I can’t drive now so I’ll go in the morning…but I’m always too tired! I have to give up wine I guess

I knew there was a downside to being within walking distance of the gym!

12. I’ll meditate instead (i.e. have a nap) – hahahhahha that my excuse for everything I’m doing in life.
I hate the idea of going to a gym!
I did to Pilates but now I’ve started just You-Tubing Pilates exercises at home instead…. Much cheaper than the gym and no travel time

Hilarious!
I’m pretty sure the trapped in the car and drowning one will be popular with me…
Oh and 28? Are you sure? Not telling fibs?

Excuse me? Are you saying I look older? I can’t afford botox (yet)
loading...
No, you don’t look older. Maybe you’ve just had a hard life.

I know it’s all meant in jest, and may have been the perfect fodder for some, but for someone like me who’s trying really hard to become more fit and healthy, which includes time at the gym this article is really disappointing. I’d much rather see motivational reasons to get back in there and be taking take of our bodies, not to be sexy, but to be the best version of ourselves we can be.

I agree – while I would have found this very funny (and a little true) 6 months ago, I dont now.
I dont do the gym, but I do Bootcamp and use the outdoors as my gym! If you want to get fit at the gym, there are going to be already fit people around. Use it as motivation!

It’s called COMEDY.
Nath please add another to your list:
21. It may make me lose my sense of humour along with those kilos.

The article is entitled “Need an excuse to skip the gym? Here’s 20.” It’s written by a comedian.
And yet you clicked on it and then complain it’s not motivational?

So don’t go to the gym. Go for a run or a walk outside. Borrow a bike and go for a ride. The weather is warming up now so no excuses.
loading...
True, true, true.
I went yesterday … no, *really*, I did.
And I’ll go tomorrow!

My latest is that I don’t believe my body was built to cope with strenuous exercise. It hurts far too much to be good for me.

Great article Nath – I love your writing
