feelgood 380x252 Lets give fad diets the flick

This post is brought to you by Nestle Soleil

You know when you’re feeling it? – that wide-awake, bouncing-out-of-your-skin buzz that comes from eating well and getting off your arse regularly?

For some of us, feeling it is a sporadic thing that happens when we’re on health kick or newly in love. For others, ‘feeling it,’ is an everyday thing.

I have a friend who’s an example of those others I speak of. I’ll call him Gerry, because that’s his name.

Gerry positively radiates positive energy at all times. This may or may not have something to do with bikram yoga five times a week and his 100km Saturday bike ride. It’s lucky Gerry is such a nice bloke – otherwise I couldn’t stand him.

Diet wise, he’s relatively normal – I’ve seen him scoff Pad Thai and drink red wine. But he also eats mountains of fruit and snacks on unsalted nuts, not honey-soy kettle chips.

Anyway, one day I was talking to him about his lifestyle and said, ‘I don’t know how you do it.’

He laughed his gorgeous Irish laugh and said, ‘I don’t know how you don’t!’

Okay. Moment of pause.

This, I have realized is the secret of happy, active people and it’s not really a secret. They feel great pretty much all the time because their lifestyle choices aren’t choices at all – they’re decisions that become part of their lives.

So while the rest of us have that ‘feeling it’ feeling sporadically, the Gerrys of the world have it all the time.

Picture 16 Lets give fad diets the flick

They don’t nod off without a mid-morning coffee or stress about shopping for jeans after lunch.

Their default mood is happy and they never say no to an invitation because they’re ‘too tired’.

Who wouldn’t want to be feeling it all the time?

Nestle Soleil yoghurt is delicious, thick and creamy yoghurt with no fat and low sugar*. It’s the perfect  snack that leaves you feeling satisfied. When you’re ‘feeling it’ and want to stay that way, Nestle Soleil makes sense. If you’d like to treat a friend to a box of goodies from Soleil, go here.

I don’t really get the “I’m feeling it” part of the campaign.

But i wanted to ask the MM team what it feels like when you hear your boss voice on the radio – freaky :-)

This yoghurt is “fake”…it may be low in kilojoules and fat…..but it’s pumped up with additives that will just result in you feeling hungry in an hours time, when most people will grab a sweet biscuit to curb their cravings.
People would be better off having half the size serving of a “real” yoghurt like Jalna…..

  3. Real food please

I’ll bet Gerry would be horrified that you are peddling diet yoghurt in his name.

Recently saw a story on ACA about a nutritionist who has changed her eating habits to “caveman” style..ie fresh fruit & veges, nuts & seeds and meat..no processed foods…at the end of the story they had an “expert” who said.. “I wouldn’t recommend this as a healthy way to lose weight.”

WTF?? Heaven help us if eating fresh, real food is deemed as unhealthy by experts.

As for giving low fat, artifcially sweetened food to babies and children, I beg parents to do some research and find out who decided kids should be having low fat . Don’t just take the “official” word for it. They are spoon fed by BigFood. Big Food has a heavy hand in funding studies that “experts” use to dictate what we should be eating.

You simply can’t go wrong if you eat real food.

I like the way you’ve presented your sponsored post today. Thanks for that. Much clearer. And I buy this kind of yoghurt every time I’m at the supermarket and it’s delicious.

I am no saint when it comes to eating (muffins anyone?) but I am sooooooo much better than I used to be.

I try to stick to low GI food, which is actually ridiculously easy to do.

Once upon a time in my heavier, more miserable days, I might have snacked on chips but i would have felt so guilty about it. Now, I don’t eat them because i know they aren’t good for me to eat regularly. sometimes, yes, but not regularly. i have almonds instead, and an apple.

I also do exercise that I enjoy.

There was no magic formula. in fact i fell over many times along this road. I can’t even tell you when the penny dropped because I don’t know. I guess it all just finally sunk in.

You know what I’m feeling?Exhausted. The end of the year is catching up with me. I might start my new years resolutions earlier this year.
Less sugar, quit smoking and take my dog for a walk every morning before work. Maybe if I start in December it takes the pressure of January to undo all of the damage I usually do over Xmas.

I wish people would stop considering the way I eat to be some sort of fad diet. I’ve never felt better and have plenty of energy and enthusiasm. Some refer to this style of eating as ketogenic, it’s pretty much just meat, eggs, green leafy veg and a few others too, cheese if you like. Lots of water.
I always used to feel crap after yoghurt. Not going to eat it ever again!

And I wish people would stop telling me what I shouldn’t eat. Some low-fat yoghurt is my treat after dinner instead of a packet of Tim Tams.

I googled this and couldn’t find an ingredients listing, Nestle’s website says this is now manufactured by a different company under licence? Not sure if this is correct. I’m wary of anything packaged that says ‘diet’ (And Nestle is ‘Soleil’ is Nestle ‘diet’ rebranded). Usually there is something in it not good for you. I’m open to hearing more, always on the look out for healthy snacks, but I’m wary of the spin and the re-branding here.

sorry, not buying into that “feeling it” at all. I prefer to eat less of the natural thing than anything diet, just really scared of sweetners… i also heard mia’s add on the radio today about this youghurt and i confess that i was a bit disappointed… i thought she was all for healthy smoothies, like natural stuff, not processed artificially sweentened food, no offence, just cought my attention when i heard it

sorry, icevovo (did you know that vovo in portuguese means grandma?) btw, i don’t think you have to be for something as you said, i just got the feeling that Mia wasn’t into the artificial stuff as i have seen in some of her posts that she was into chia seeds, fresh vegies smoothies, etc. i am sure she is into that stuff and the artificial stuff as well, fine by me! i agree with you that it’s getting harder and harder to eat these days. I have a very strong reason not to go for the artificial sweeteners found in those yoghurts ( and other fat free foods as well) and i do eat what i like too, didn’t mean to offend anyone, just expressing myself … i thought that’s the point of having ‘comments”, right?

I used to fad diet. I’ve tried everything. WW, Jenny Craig, Lemon detox. It would always work but I would always stack it on afterwards.
I’m now heavier than I was after I’d do those diets and I’ve realised it’s about slow change. Less exciting but a fact.
I now walk as much as I can and eat small portions.
    I’m happier and healthier.
    The End.

Yep that is on par with study findings, ie people who diet are more likely to experience weight gain longterm & end up heavier than they were before.

My lecturer gave an explanation that hit home with me: if u weigh 80kg and go on a diet your weight goes down. However if you then go back to eating the same as an 80kg person then the weight will creep back up…to 80kg.

Basically eat like the weight you want to be. Simplistic but I find that’s what happens for me. Ah, but if only I didn’t love food so much…

I don’t think people on “fad diets” feel very good at all.
