Finding the right beauty regime sure is a lot like dating.

Finding the right beauty regime is a lot like dating: you have to try out a few duds before you find the one.

There’s the dizzying, love-at-first-sight infatuation and then there’s the one that will be there for you at the end of the night.

Here are five telltale signs that finding the right beauty regime can be like searching for true love:

Just as an FYI, you should know that this post is sponsored by Garnier BB Cream. But all opinions expressed by the author are 100% authentic and written in their own words.

1. Things go smoothly from the beginning.

You felt it the moment you met; it just felt right. You stopped wanting to see other people. You didn’t have to have ‘the talk’ to evaluate where the relationship is going. From the get-go, it felt like the most natural thing in the world.

And the same goes for your favourite beauty product. From the time you put it on your face in the store, you knew it was the one. It matched your skin tone perfectly. It blended in easily and you didn’t want to flirt with other products.

Because in the end, opposites may attract but that sparkly purple eyeshadow is not going to always suit your needs as much as a BB cream can.

2. Your family and friends are happy for you.

Girl meets boy, they start dating and inevitably the time comes for him to meet your family and friends. You’re nervous because you’ve got a lot riding on this; you highly value your peer’s opinions and want it to go well.

There you are – the two of you standing, waiting in a bar, and you spot two friends from far away. They are smiling already, things are looking good. One leans in and whispers, “Your skin (guy) looks amazing, where did you find (him) it?”

3. The thought of marrying doesn’t scare the pants off you.

Remember that moment in Sex and the City when Carrie tries on ugly wedding dresses with Miranda only to have a panic attack and break out in a rash?

The same goes for your most loved beauty product; if it makes you break out in a rash – it is not the one for you (for the record we’re still Team Aidan).

You should be so deliriously happy you want to wear it for life and consider buying 17 of them in the unlikely event it is discontinued.

4. There is nothing major you want to change.

In the early stages of a relationship, those dangerous love chemicals cloud your brain and judgement. You bargain with yourself to overlook the fact he has an open-door bathroom policy because he is really, really good-looking. You think maybe things will change.

Take a peek inside your beauty bag – is there a bunch of products you’re hanging onto because you think you can’t find anything better? C’mon – deep down in your heart, you know it’s time to move on. They won’t, and years down the track, that small almost-endearing behaviour will drive you mad.

5. It won’t run off the first sign of trouble.

Your relationship is going swimmingly, but you’re yet to hit your first hurdle. There is nothing that tests a relationship more than a day at the races.

Picture this, it’s Melbourne Cup day and it’s been fun but now things are starting to turn messy. Women are stumbling around heels in hand, you’ve seen more smudged mascara and drunken people than you care to, and – hang on a minute – where is your boyfriend anyway?

Ask yourself a few tough questions – would the love of your life disappear, leaving on your own to fend for a cab at 2am? The short answer is no. You need someone reliable. A guy that can outlast your beauty products.
