There were some interesting reactions when we played this video in the Mamamia office. Lucy shut her computer. Rick shut down. We could hear Rebecca screaming from under her desk in Adelaide. Nat booked a therapy session. And Mia said ‘run it tomorrow’.
So here we are. Now it’s your turn. Watch this (but probably not if you’re at work) and tell us what you think. Oh, and send it to every bloke you know. Or someone who knows a bloke.
Did you love it or loathe it? It’s for a good cause … but is it effective? Take the poll:

Just plain hilarious!!! hahahahahahahhahahahahahahha. So funny. Love how many people are upset by this “soft porn” ohhhh get over it! grow some balls
loading...
Reading the comments, its very surprising that so many women are so blase about showing the vid to their partners/boyfriends/husbands. You are fine with your boyfriend watching a vid of another woman – all skanky like and in nothing but lingerie???? Are you OK with yr partner going to strips clubs and bucks parties too??? #confused
loading...
I have absolutley no quarrels with my boyfriend going to a strip club or a bucks party. Bucks party?! Are you serious. How very insecure you must be….
loading...
I’m willing to fight against testicular cancer as much as the next person, but sending a soft porn vid to my brother, boyfriend, dad, co-workers and uncle?? Errr, no thanks.

Why is this supposed to be disgusting?
the scantily clad girl? she gorgeous and clad so for a good cause.
the fact that it implies transgender for a second? grow and up and evolve, she’s still gorgeous with balls.
the actual balls? the amount of exposure mammamia generates for embracing the beauty of the female body in all its dimples and stretch marks etc I would hope we could extend this ideal to the male body.
(for the record I like balls and don’t find them at all disgusting, and I’m a woman) Imagine if this was for some form of woman’s anatomy and someone implied it was disgusting? there would be an outrage.
loading...
I find balls disgusting. I don’t expect everyone else to. But I do.
loading...
Great idea. They should make an alternative for gay men though, because that woman won’t keep gay men engaged long enough to get the important health msg at the end!
loading...
i think it would turn blokes off even more
loading...
This was both hilarious and disgusting at the same time!! I passed it on!!
loading...
ha ha i thought she was a trasex but the looked fether fcuk some hairy balls,,,, p.s but mine r goog to go thanks for that
loading...
After of years of working with cancer victims, I urge all men to watch this video and take the details into account and lets face it the delivery is perfect. It certainly got my attention.
loading...
you dont have anything better you could be posting??
loading...
Very impressive. But was that wrinkly coinpurse thing she was playing with?
loading...
I consider myself to be very open in many things. I am not a big fan of chicks with dicks but did not shut of the video even though I was afraid it was going that way. I do not think I woudl watch it again even knowing how it ends. I think young people are much better at listening to their bodies than our fathers were. And if it takes ads like this to get this message out and keep swinging the pendulum in that direction so be it. Bring them on. I really could have done without the shock value of the woman taking the fake sack out of her panties. That message could have been delivered in a more natural way. And maybe having her offer a little more explanation about what you are looking for in self scrotum examination rather than “smooth” may have been nice.
loading...
I laughed so hard I wet my self. Lol
loading...
I don’t care who likes this ad or who doesn’t, but those of you that find this shocking or disturbing really need to get out more, you’re living a very sheltered existence.
loading...
I laughed also, and sent it on to several male friends. It’s just the shock factor that is so good.
loading...
I am okay with the concept but I think the balance is a little off–too much sexy and not quite enough info.
loading...
Great to see this issue promoted! My fiancée was diagnosed with testicular cancer a few years ago, and and the time he was diagnosed he didn’t even know about checking!
Good way to get the boys’ attention!!!
loading...
Love it! Makes you want to watch!
loading...
“MORE Aesthetically pleasing”? Wec-chic, ummm what are they like?
No really, great idea- totally scary, I was so worried about where it was all going…
I lost an Uncle to testicular cancer; it had advanced to other organs, and he had been single so missed finding it in time, so sad, he was only 50 when he passed away. Such a shame he had neglected them.
loading...
Holy crap! if mine came off like that, rough nuts would the the least of my worries!
loading...
Testicular cancer is a MASSIVE taboo amongst men: who gets that checked out?
I think kudos should go not to the ad company, but to the men who go and get this sorted; look at Young Socceroos striker Dylan Tombides – only 17 and diagnosed with the disease, but only because he went and got it checked.
loading...
What this kind of ad does is gets people talking and sending links. Shock value always does, perfect example: this post
loading...
I was expecting a twist, and thought it was going to be trans gender rather than testicular cancer awareness. Found it a bit odd, to be honest. Not much time spent presenting the informational content.
I would have to suspect it’s rather meant to go viral due to (probably mostly women) sending it on to guys they know well.
loading...
My partner never complains about being checked regularly…….
loading...
I thought it was hilarious, and while I don’t think my husband will agree, it will get my attention and remind him to check. I guess therefore, it has just done it’s job.
loading...
I like. A doctor espousing the dangers and how to check your cojones wouldn’t get reposted here and in the millions of other sites it has doubtlessly been posted to. It worked – many of you have shown it to your husbands as I will do – even if they don’t like it after the balls come out, they will still have in the back of their minds that they should be checking. Testicular cancer affects young men – I think it hits the mark.
loading...
Well, I thought it was fabulous, but when I showed it to the husband he received to watch after she pulled the balls out. He didn’t even get to the end. So I guess it’s not going to work on everyone…
loading...
‘Husband’ sounds a bit uptight and afraid of the ‘ladyman’.
Did they have to be such a hairy pair?
loading...
It’s okay that humans are coming to terms with the mortality that their bodies are created with.
Life is finite for mortal beings. We might be born with some weird God-like impression of infinite life.
But that’s a delusion. Religion plays with us to make mortality seem wrong, or weak.
Life is fragile and precious.
Be healthy.
Get real and be
loading...
Lol my husband starting checking his balls straight away…
loading...
Absolutely gobsmacked, I don’t really think that it gets the message across. A more serious figure (like a male Dr) with hard hitting facts would more than likely get the message across. Interesting to see if statistics show an increase in the number of people undertaking professional checks for testicualar cancer as a result of this add campaign.
loading...
Young people, especially males, don’t care what a serious (read: boring) male doctor has to say about testicular cancer. On the other hand, a hot woman touching herself attracts the attention. Like it or not, and I didn’t, this ad grabs your attention and you remember it. Hopefully that also means they take its message on board.
loading...
Oh, yeah, “a more serious figure like a male doctor”! Like one of those in a white coat? Like the ones that advertise dandruff shampoo? Or are they chemists? Men are much more likely to stay tuned to this woman than to a boring ‘doctor’.
loading...
MotherR: A doctor in a nice white coat…like the one in Mamamia’s breast cancer ad. Lmao!

loading...
The ad was a smack in the face but it works the message is being shared. I don’t think a serious Dr with hard hitting facts will have that level of impact. The ad is perfect for social media sharing. Thumbs up to the advertisers.
loading...
These ads address a group of people who would otherwise ignore important information just because it simply did not keep their interest. If it comes across as insulting to the intelligence, keep in mind, you are not likely the target audience. Nothing can be made to be suitable for everyone….which is precisely the point behind this campaign. It, and others like it, are meant for those who don’t normally care, aren’t informed enough, or are too intimidated by the rigidity and “hush hush” nature of the subject to pay attention to these things. It seems patronizing…because it is. Some people really do just need to be treated like juveniles to get a point across.
loading...
It looks like most men were focusing on the wrong things (shock horror) and this time I am not blaming the men. Their reaction is quite normal. A beautiful buxom blond in lingerie touching herself is quite provocative, but reading some of the reactions, it looks like the serious message of testicular cancer did not get across so all we have is another tv ad that exploits our female form.
loading...
love love love it. can’t wait to show my husband. the Gruen transfer team will love this. advertising can be powerful, clever and funny but i guess we won’t be seeing this on the telly…..?
loading...
Laughed at some of the comments. 4 yo is hovering, so will have to show partner once she’s in bed. Can’t wait for his reaction (no idea/curious as to what it will be!?!)
loading...
I think the target market for this ad is men and women.
And both would watch it. I loved it! Not only can a gorgeous blonde talk intelligently, but the message gets across, now I know how to check my man, because after seeing that, I’m sure he’d rather I practice doing it like Rhian does!
loading...
I just showed this to my husband. He was pretty happy at first but puzzled as to why I was showing him footage of a gorgeous blonde fondling herself. And then he was gobsmacked.
I asked him if it got the point across, and he said “No, cos it was just creepy”.
loading...
I showed my sons, 18 and 21, last night. They’re both pretty worldly types… They still haven’t recovered. They have a look of sheer terror in their eyes still!
loading...
Hubby loved the video…until he hated it. At first he thought I wanted us to watch some softcore porn for our sex life (one of his fantasies), then he thought I was telling him I’m bi (another of his fantasies)…then he ran from the room screaming.
The video is very clever…but i’m not sure the shock value, and this particular shock specifically, would be very effective for the target audience.
loading...
It was shocking, disturbing, but got the point across.
loading...
Haha hilarious. Gave me a shock and i was pretty put off, but effective advcertising doesn’t have to be enjoyable. It’ll get the message through to more ppl than are currently receiving it, so can only be a good thing
loading...
I think it’s brilliant. This is such a hard subject to approach men about…particularly young men. I think the ads creators have developed an ad that is exactly what the target market needs.
Such an important message…
loading...
I showed this to my husband, and he thought it was hilarious. I asked him if it makes him want to check himself, and he said “Yeah, she’s hot, I’ll do whatever she says!”
loading...
Well I am not a guy so not really the target market… if the boys watch her (which they would) and then make a habit of checking themselves then it works. We may not like the way the message is sent but we all know blokes are notoriously bad for going to the doctor early and as Prostate cancer kills as many women as breast cancer this campaign will give it the coverage it deserves in the media.
loading...
I don’t think prostate cancer kills many women at all actually.
loading...
I just played it to my partner without telling him what it was about – and he was totally grossed out, he literally ran away. Anyway point made and it brought up the ‘have you / do you check yourself’ chat, so although he may protest it won’t work, in some ways it already has…
loading...
Clever.
loading...
I was trying so hard not to look at the testicles (couldn’t they have chosen a more aesthetically pleasing pair!) that I missed most of what she said.
loading...
thanks for my first laugh of the morning after a night of not sleeping children, no mean feat well done and thanks x
loading...
I made my husband watch it as soon as he came home from work and his response made me giggle.
First he said “what was that about? I was too busy being grossed out by the balls to notice”. Followed by “the balls were so hairy, they could’ve given her some shaved ones to work with. If I wanted to see some hairy balls I’d look in the mirror”.
When we’d finally finished laughing he said “what did she say to do, feel around for lumps?” He then proceeded to put his hand down his pants and check himself.
So the video certinaly had the desired effect in my house – got a bloke who’s never thought of it before to check himself out – and for that I think it’s definitely worth it and I’m grateful
loading...
Lol!
loading...
I find it ironic that one cause (e.g. male cancer awareness) will so happily trample another (e.g. opposing sexualisation / objectification of women) to make a point. I think it cheapens and weakens their message, personally.
loading...
Oh for goddness sakes, if a sexed up male model was used to assist with awareness for a female cause, nobody could care less.
Men are sexual and visual creatures and the producers use that to get the required attention, cant we leave the bra burning for other things.
Not that you have many bras to burn Luke (well, that I know of), just saying.
And anyway, if anything, it will make most guys all the more cautious of getting aroused by such imagery, for fear of any possible ‘surprises’ lurking.
Cant we sometimes leave the PC and just see the harmless humour in things.
loading...
I thought at first it was an ad for transgender awareness. And I was all “how did they get the funding for this?”
I don’t think it’s a given that men would watch it. Some guys find that t&a method of getting their attention insulting.
loading...
I’m with you Luke. And OMG how amazing that a MAN feels that way!
Kudos to you. Thanks for standing up against the objectification of women. Legend.
loading...
It’d get their attention anyway!!
Good work.
loading...
I wanted to gag!!! Urgh!!
loading...
Ad I thought…my hubby turned it off as soon as the balls came out. Point lost.
loading...
This, people, is why breast cancer charities will always do well: girls’ bits are nice; guys’, not so much.
loading...
That is a sad commentary, but probably true enough. Breasts are an easy sell, things like balls and colon, not so much. It is a sad fact – not taking anything away from Breast Cancer.
loading...
The human race is a weird lot. A human body comprises a wide range of parts both internal and external. Somehow, over the centuries, it has become a social convention that some of those parts are deemed “offensive” to the human eye. Yet in many parts of world society it is quite OK to murder, maim an “enemy” because he/she practices a different religion. I guess I’ll never understand the human race. In which case, I have no hope in understanding women!
loading...
bit disappointed she didn’t actually touch herself really!
Good campaign I guess
