New research has revealed the exact age you'll be at your happiest.

We often tell young people that they should be having “the time of their lives”.

We often think that our 20s are our peak – life will never be as good.

Apparently, that’s not actually the case. In fact, it couldn’t be further from the truth.

New research by the UK government has revealed that people are happiest between 65 and 79 years of age.

Maybe it’s the ability to reflect back on our lives at that age, or perhaps it’s the newfound freedom (no more kids and no more work). Or maybe it’s the reemergence of young children.  Whatever it is, obviously, many of us still have a while to go until our lives actually peak.

The survey was conducted over three years between 2012 and 2015, and looked at data from 300,000 adults.

And while we should all be optimistic about the years ahead, the survey found that happiness and life satisfaction hits an all-time low between 45 and 59. Even people over 90 reported higher levels of satisfaction that those in their middle ages.

Of course, different people will tell you different things about life. One thing that’s for sure (and this survey certainly seems to point to it), is that life is a bit of a roller-coaster.
