The time-travelling blooper spoiling this...

You don’t have to be a die-hard fashion lover to fall victim to a terrible hair fad – and if you came of age in the 1980s, 90s or 00s, we’re willing to bet you did. At least once.

Whether it was a crimping habit, an obsession with butterfly clips or a beloved scrunchie, we all have our stories.

There’s no judgement here – this is a safe place. A safe place where we can take a walk down hair memory lane and laugh, and cringe, and shudder, and maybe even cry together. Here we’ve come up with the 17 most memorable hair style crimes of the past few decades and ranked them from ‘ridiculous’ to ‘just plain tragic’.

Take a deep breath and start clicking…

Do you agree with our ranking? Are there any tragic hair fads we’ve left off?

I am so ashamed to admit, but I did most of those at one point. Why? Why?

I don’t see what was wrong with butterfly clips, bobbles, hair wraps and scrunchies for kids hair.I had two daughters and they always had beautiful matching hair accessories, including all of the above. And I don’t know what’s so bad about scrunchies.I still use pretty, matching scrunchies to this day and I’m sure I’m not the only one who does.Im sure the shops don’t stock them just for me.Nola x

Let’s bring back zig-zag parts, glitter hair gel and butterfly clips! Actually love them! Still think crimping looks pretty good too…

I just had a trip down memory lane reading this… butterfly clips were the best, I can’t believe I forgot about them! Gold!

Guilty on several counts, Your Honour. My own shame roll looks like this: butterfly clips (SO MANY), hair wraps, hair mascara and glitter, zig zag parts, strands (and school photos to prove it) and hair bobbles.
