Ever heard of anyone celebrating their birthday with a nice fetus cake? Complete with sperm cupcakes? Well, now you have.
Kim Deal and Kelley Deal of rock band The Breeders celebrated their 50th birthday with a cake created by the elé cake company. The cake – as you can see – was shaped like a womb and featured twin fetuses with little umbilical cords.
Well. It’s certainly different, that’s for sure. But it’s not the only er, different cake out there. Check out some the of the weirdest, wackiest and most wonderful cakes on the internet:

Goodness, I wish I saw this post earlier!
For my 10th birthday my mum made me a “Spice bus” cake.
I was obsessed with the Spice Girls and their movie had just been released, so my mum made me a bus with the Union Jack and a spice girl in each window.
(and oreo cookies for the wheels!)
Best cake ever!

Sometimes you see a cake and exclaim, “that’s just to beautiful to cut”.
When this cake is cut I don’t think that I’d like a slice. I can appreciate the humour behind a womb cake being created for a band called “The Breeders”. It just looks creepy. But of course, beauty will always be in the eye of the beholder.

Hey MM, since this is an Australian site, is there any chance we could use Australian spellings (i.e. foetus)? I’m having enough of an identity crisis not being in Australia without thinking my own country is morphing into America!

A common misconception: http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/fetus

I was googling fire engine cakes for my nephews birthday and amongst all the pictures of fireman and fire engine cakes was a cake in the firm of a kitty litter tray complete with cat poo!! I am still wondering why?

When asked what kind of cake he would like for his birthday, my 3 year old son answered “a boot cake!”
loading...
Oh gosh, I hope he didn’t mean “Boots”, from Dora the Explorer…. Cause that cake ‘ain’t no monkey!
loading...
Sadly, I didn’t make this one. My friend made it for my friend Joyce who turned 80 and plays the Piano Accordion for all ‘the old people’ in nursing homes.
I took the photos though – but the cake was amazing – bought a tear to Joyce’s eye….

This one was a hit (pun intended) – a Pinata cake!

I have made so many cakes over the years for my three children – mostly from the Women’s Weekly books and the ABC kids books. From Humpty Dumpty, to Barbie, the Dorothy the Dinosaur to a Football, to B1 and more. This one is one of my not good ones….I thought I was pretty good at cake making by this time so made this design up all by myself. Talented eh? The greeny, spewy grey icing was a hit (not!)
Can you guess what it is? I’ll give you a hint – it was for my daughter’s Detective Party….

I made this for my son’s 4th birthday – space party! Lots of fun!!!

This looks amazing!

I made this for my son’s 3rd birthday. One of the things I love about being a mum is making the birthday cakes!
loading...
But this is definitely one of my favourites – I made it for a friend’s 30th birthday a few years ago – at his request! It’s the chest-burster from the movie “Alien”. Good times.

Oh, bravo!! Ick, but bravo

Seriously awesome!!!

I have a little hobby of cake-making. Here’s one I did for a small friend of mine who turned 4 and is absolutely OBSESSED with Tutankhamen. The bottom bit is cake (women’s weekly family chocolate cake for those playing along)- his sarcophagus – and his mask (which went on top of the cake) is made out of icing and edible food paint. All edible, but we thought we’d preserve his face and save the kids from sore sugar filled tummies.

My brother (who is a bit of an Apple fanboy) had this cake for his 21st. Very cool!

Fabulous cakes!!
But three spelling mistakes (that I counted). People go to all that effort and then get the spelling wrong?!
loading...
Those one’s are sourced from Cake Wrecks (cake wrecks.com), and they are exactly that, wrecks.
Highly hilarious!

There is a website dedicated to misspelling on cakes. Maybe they were lifted from that?

This year for my daughters American Diner themed 2nd birthday party I made a “Spaghetti and Meatballs” cake! Complete with “tomato pasta sauce” and “Parmesan cheese”
Damn! On my iPad and realised I can’t upload pic! Ahhhh I will upload it from my mobile!
Also – for her 1st birthday I also made a great cake – theme was “Alice in ONEderland” and I made a massive multicoioured mad hatters hat!
That can be seen here ——> http://phoodie.wordpress.com/2011/04/13/alice-in-onederland-bubbas-1st-birthday-party/

That is the most hilarious and strangely appropriate cake I’ve ever seen

Love it!!

I can’t look away.

This is just a little bit too much.
loading...
I know it isn’t very strange, but I AM quite proud of this effort…
I did it with no plan to follow, just a few plane cakes online, and then off I went!
It was a Bon Voyage cake

i have to say i prefer the cakes in the Womens Weekly Children’s cake book to any of these!.
Have watched Ace of Cakes and Cake Boss when i was living in America loved it! such talent those bakers have!
loading...
Doesn’t it seem like America has a rabid love of cake shows? I swear that’s all I watched when I lived there – and loved it
Cake Boss is amazing…
loading...
And this is my favourite cake from Cakewrecks. Classic!
loading...
Cake Wrecks is, I think, the funniest thing on the Interwebs. The cakes themselves, and the comments that go with them are completely brilliant.

my friend made a very similar rainbow layer cake for my birthday-simply amazing. but not too difficult!
loading...
Does anyone follow JustB? Pip Lincoln’s daughter’s wedding cakes were ace.

I have all the coloured layers made of this cake in my freezer. I am just planning on putting them together for my daughters rainbow party next week. Its been a doddle so far but am expecting there to be tears when I put it all together. I dreamt last night of the leaning tower of pisa , its a premonition….
loading...
That rainbow cake is amazing. Does anyone know how to recreate something similar and if so, what bakeware is best?
loading...
Does anyone have a recipe for this?!
loading...
The ‘don’t forget to wear underwear’ cake is spelt wrong…. doh!
loading...
that’s the point…it’s a cake wreck;)
loading...
Does anyone else watch Ace of Cakes or Cake Boss?? AMAZING!!
loading...
Yes! Planet Cake and Choccywoccydooda too! I cant bake to save myself so I love to watch these shows and am always in awe of the masterpieces they create.
loading...
this reminded me of the cake that Planet Cake did for Dr Karl’s 30th year on air at Triple J – a female reproductive organ cake! (dr Karl’s favorite organ) Pretty incredible

I’m glad someone put this up, this is the first thing I thought of too!

At his request I made a “red fanged snake cake” for my nephew’s 8th birthday party a couple of weeks ago. The snake’s jaws had to be wide open to show off the fangs which was an interesting – & successful – exercise in cake scaffolding! Hint: clear plastic decorative plate stand worked wonders! As did carving a red frog into fangs and securing them with toothpicks. I have 3 young nephews so expect more entertaining challenges in the next few years. Time for cake decorating classes I think!

You need to change the title. “Mental” is derogatory and offensive to people with mental illness. I assume you wouldn’t title it “The most gay cakes ever”…get my point?
loading...
Taken on board and changed – thank you
loading...
So very appreciated – thanks Lana
loading...
Won’t all the “weird” people be offended by the new title? I think these days the term “mental” is more commonly used (by young people) to describe something that bends your mind – not as a put down to people with mental health issues. I just wish everyone could harden up a bit and stop taking everything so seriously.

I made cupcakes for my sons for their birthdays – can’t take the credit for the idea, found them on pinterest. One was hamburgers (as per a previous MM post,) and the other was this character

Very cool Vicki.
I like the 2nd from the right at the top with the wonky eyes
loading...
Nice one Vicky!
I made one of those the other day but they aren’t as perfect as yours because they were thrown together in 5 minutes flat.
loading...
I love these!! How did you do the eyes? And is the blue made of buttercream icing? Ta!
loading...
The blue is buttercream icing “fluffed up” so it looks like fur. The eyes are white choc melts and the pupil is black icing that came in a tube. Cookie broken in half shoved in lots of icing to hold it together. So easy!
