1. Queensland Police declared an emergency situation in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall today after they received reports of a man running through the street screaming and carrying a gun. The area was evacuated and members of the public placed into lock down. The seige ended when police shot the gunman in the arm with rubber bullets.
2. The look of your Facebook news feed is set to change. The social network is making over its user’s home pages so they resemble a “personalised newspaper”. There will be a focus on “bright, beautiful” stories and high-resolution photos – think Instagram and Twitter style. Announcing the changes in California, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said: “I think there is a special place in the world for this sort of personalised newspaper… It should have a front page and top news section or let you drill down into any topic you want.”
3. An Australian army psychologist has spoken out about what he says is a neglect of abuse victims in the Australian Defence Force. Lieutenant Colonel Paul Morgan spoke to ABC’s 7:30 last night where he said he was the target of a gay vilification campaign on Facebook in 2010. “I’m speaking out because I’m concerned about the wellbeing of our junior soldiers who are experiencing abuse in Defence today…. If I as a senior officer can’t get Defence to do the right thing, they have absolutely no hope.”

Little bit disappointed that the only attention International Women's Day is getting on this site is three lines in the 'Friday's News in 2 Minutes' section. I could understand how it may rank lower than some of the other issues on the list, but I'll be damned if Facebook is more important than Hanson declaring gay marriage to be bad for children and someone creating incredibly offensive t-shirts...
