UPDATE: The Fashion Magazine is reporting that Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Cameron Diaz are all vying to wear Victoria Beckham’s line to the Oscars come February 26th. Michelle Williams is already a fan, having been snapped wearing the Victoria by Victoria Beckham line several times, most recently to the Oscars luncheon.
The Oscars red carpet is one of the most important events of the awards season, and having an A-List celebrity choose to wear her label to the ceremony is being taken as a sign of Victoria Beckham having made it in the eyes of the fashion crowd.

Fashion cred? It’s a yes for Victoria Beckham. Have a look at this teaser for the short film for her line – Victoria by Victoria Beckham – which is set to debut for Spring (which is our autumn) and will be “more affordable” then her previous designer range.
Here ’tis.
This is what the UK Daily Telegraph has to say about the clip:
Designer, mother-of-four, one-time singer and all-round fashion success story, Victoria Beckham, has released a 20-second teaser for an upcomingshort film to promote her first Victoria by Victoria Beckham collection.
Recruiting the film-maker cum illustrator Quentin Jones, Beckham has created a viral video to showcase her secondary line of ‘girly’ dresses for everyday wear. The range is the ‘more affordable’ half of her growing empire, (though dresses still retail between £500 and £800), and boast less structured and shorter designs with scallop details, fun prints and brighter colours than the mainline.
Late last year, at the British Fashion Awards (otherwise known as the Oscars of the fashion industry) it was Victoria Beckham who walked away with the Designer Brand of the Year prize. It’s kind of a big deal in the fashion world – she had to overcome the likes of Stella McCartney, Tom Ford and Burberry to do so.
Of the award, the former Spice Girl said:”I am overwhelmed. I was really trying to keep it together in the speech without bursting out crying. It means an enormous amount to me. It’s something for the kids to take to school for show-and-tell.”
So let’s see what her collections look like, shall we? These pics are from Victoria’s 2011 and 2012 lines:

We will definitely have NONE of this calling women, “Stick insects.” Only the other day, poor ol’ Alex Perry copped criticism right here on Mamamia’s discussion walls about having referred to a woman as a, “dog”. Mia stated categorically that she is NOT in the habit of referring to other women as animals, so (god, let’s hope a back-search of her articles doesn’t reveal a single reference to skinny women as “stick insects”…) we will NEVER ever again compare women with animals. EVER…. see we’re all hypocrites…

i love her style! its femine and i love it and could def see myself wearing her stuff if only i could afford it! well done for following her passion and being recognised in the industry that is so competitive and tough.

I am so amused right now about one of the models in the Victoria Beckham show. Does anyone else think she looks like one of the characters from that Cats and Dogs movie? Thre is something very odd going on with her mouth in not one, but all of her shots.

Love Victoria’s clothes elegant, simple, beautiful good on her for those who want diversity… ha ha No one rich enough to actually buy one of these dresses is actually FAT!!!

I really like her collection, the dresses would be flattering on any body shape. I say good on her – she has persisted in doing something she loves and is finally getting serious recognition.

I love Victoria Beckham designs that apparently can fit the ordinary-sized woman – wow, that’s that’s a + in my books!!!

She doesn’t design these herself, she’s merely a spokesperson for her namesake label. Having said that, its definitely improved 10 fold from the first collection. She still makes me squirm though, I just want her to eat a burger and get back to the gorgeous size she was… when she was in the Spice Girls.

like, like, like x 24. V surprised!
Not so sure about the model who’s hip bones we can see through the dress tho..
loading...
I went to a wheels & dollbaby catwalk show the other night & i was really surprised that the models had hips & boobs! I was expecting stick figures & a couple were too skinny but majority of them looked healthy, same size as me! (naturally slim) It was refreshing!
Not to mention loved the clothes!
loading...
i looveee the collection.. everyone laughed at the start of her designing but alot of celebrities are seen wearing her clothes… big claps vickki xxx
loading...
I love the orange mini and the white dress straight after it. Actually, I have loved a lot of stuff she has designed. Now as soon as it is reduced by 400% I may even buy some

Could the models look anymore unfriendly and pissed off?
Or is that just to get you to pay more attention to the frocks?
loading...
I don’t think so, because I always notice their facial expressions more than the clothes. I go face -> clothes, which is fine if you’re looking at a still picture but probably not while they’re walking past…
loading...
I think they’re not allowed to smile because it would draw attention away from the clothes. It’s not meant to be about them, they’re just the hanger.
loading...
A blank expression I understand, but what’s going on with emo model in purple dress? + extra heavy make-up= too distracting.

I’m very skinny (though I like to say ‘svelte’) and I was not offended by what Mia said. She clarified later that she was upset at the lack of diversity, which I think is fair. I can see how it may have been misinterpreted by some, though.
What I don’t think is fair is that at least one person below has referred to skinny women as “stick insects”. Have Mia’s body-love posts taught you nothing? Calling me a stick insects is just as offensive as calling someone fat.
You may find VB too skinny, you may find models too skinny…but some women naturally look like that, myself included, and let’s be careful not to promote positive body image of one group at the expense of others. Let’s spread the love all ’round, we all deserve it =)

I’m so with you Shannon!

exactly!

So true.

She looks SOOOOOOOOO much better with short hair!
loading...
I disagree I like it long!

i like the black and white mini dress at the start and the long sleeve apricot mini dress but i liked all of them
loading...
I just want to know where to buy them!!!!

net-a-porter

VB should be well chuffed. They are delightful and wearable. Each collection gets better.

I love dresses and skirts with pockets!
loading...
i love the picture of victoria at the end
she looks, dare i say it, healthy & normal!
the dresses are lovely, too.
i particularly like the white one with the tulle!

I love the trends that are coming out this season, its so nice to go see a trend so girly and pretty.
Although the models were all slim, thats pretty much a staple at fashion shows. From what I can tell, only well established designers can pull it off with good cred eg. alexander perry. For victoria, who is doing so much to fit in, I hardly see her trying to strike out against one of the fashion industry’s mores.
I do think she looks a lot healthier and nicer too. Natural and approachable. I like it a lot.
loading...
I adore her designs! absolutely stunning – my fave was that dark apricot coloured dress – stuh-hunning
loading...
I really LOVE this collection! It’s simple, clean and definitely wearable for all! I didn’t think the models looked too skinny, in fact they looked all right for their height. They were slim but definitely had curves (hips, bust), as mentioned by the others who commented earlier. Well done Victoria!
loading...
I agree, she is porducing better designs every year, I like her minimalist style. And doesn’t she look better with long hair!
loading...
was thinking the same thing!!! she looks lovely- very classy and pretty
loading...
I’m a long time fan of Victoria Beckham I absolutely love her and think she is fabulous. I love her collection, I love everything she does and I’m glad that people are finally starting to take her seriuosly.
loading...
Love VB too. Wish she wasn’t quite so skinny (infact I long for her to be back to Spice Girl size), but always have thought she was awesome.
loading...
You know in that last photo, she looks a bit tired and older, and I think it’s so many years of extreme dieting making her look drawn.
loading...
Hmm, I’d have thought it was the extreme working hours and stress leading up to showing a collection.
But she is older now.

For someone so apparently in favour of body diversity, you come across as quite bitchy sometimes Mia when talking about the bodies of women who are skinny. I agree with Kateo, “womanly curves” doesn’t necessarily refer to fat rolls! It can mean the natural curve in at the waist and out at the hips which is more notable on women who have skinny waists.
I don’t think that much of Victoria’s fashion line but I usually think most clothes that you see on catwalks look pretty weird.
loading...
I agree zabie. Sometimes I feel this website is a little too judgmental, especially for one that aims for harmony.
loading...
i don’t. (just my opinion)
but i think the tone is just right.
i don’t want to see stick insects all the time. these women in the show are not pictures of health by any means. i defy anyone who might take the opinion that it’s their natural size. and when that is the ‘norm’ on the cat walk/media and not in real life i think a bit of an attitude needs to be taken
(again… just my opinion…)

hi anonymous.
I think mia is really correct in what she said below in terms of misinterpreting what she wrote (a hazard of writing I guess, just like emails). I’d more seen it as a comment on VB’s weight rather than the actual models.
I agree with you that there needs to be a greater variety of women portrayed in the media. I guess I was also making just a general comment about the website. Having said that, I don’t want to be attacked (not that I think you’re doing that) for saying something negative. I like many other women (and men) enjoy reading this website and log on daily.
loading...
sorry but you’ll have to defy me! I am naturally that skinny and don’t put on weight unless I eat bucket loads of really bad food ( a la when I lived in the USA…lucky charms cereal anyone?!)
sorry if by looking like a stick insect I offend you spend and day with me and the food I eat and you will see that I do not have an eating disorder…
I think Mia is in the line of fire no matter what she says and my comment below wasnt a jab at her because I know she is all for ‘real women’ (hell she taught me about body love when I was in my teens!!) It was just explaining that all women ARE women…
just because you have had a double mastectomy doesn’t mean you’re not a real woman. just because you have a naturally masculine built body doesn’t mean you’re not a real woman. If you have a vagina- you’re a real woman!!!!
loading...
I understand the naturally skinny thing. I was a size 6 until my early 30s despite eating like a horse. It’s in our family genes. Had many a negative comment about my size, anorexia and bulimia jokes the lot. Now as 40 beckons, I am happily farming a rather fabulous muffin top due to a changed metabolism related to health issues. Not long ago I was told by a store assistant that I couldn’t wear a particular dress thanks to my tummy, or as she put it “a woman of your size”(complete with tone, eye roll and a sigh). I was very proud that I didn’t deck her. Either way I can’t win in the weight stakes. Mind you I would say that many models create their bodies through unhealthy eating and exercise practices and not purely genes.
loading...
Yeah because calling another woman a “stick” isn’t offensive.
*At all*.
Pffffffffffffffffffffft
loading...
Bitchy? I think you misinterpreted what I wrote.
Yes, I am disappointed that there is no display of any curves whatsoever on Victoria’s catwalk.
So yes, the snorting coffee out the nose remark was a reference to that – a disconnect between what VB has said and what she has shown.
Not bitchy though.
loading...
I guess I interpreted the snorting coffee remark as a reference to Victoria being so skinny herself as well, like “uh, how would she know anything about womanly curves, look at her”. Maybe you didn’t mean that.
loading...
genuine question Mia… would you have felt the same way if they were all size 16? are you disappointed that there was no diversity or disappointed there were no Christina Hendrix types?
Not saying this out of bitchiness would really like your opinion….
loading...
Agreed! Size and shape are not necessarily the same thing. I’m a size six, but I have a very small waist that DOES curve out into hips and yet no one would dare call me an ‘hourglass’ because I’m not a size 12 or bigger. I’m incredibly sick of ‘curvy’ being used as a euphumism for overweight… It’s everywhere, in magazines, tv and internet. People became incredibly provoked to remark on Katy Perry when she declared that she loves her curves (Grazia magazine), claiming (rudely) that she’s too small to be considered curvy. That was a enough to make me fume!
loading...
Agree completely.
If you look at the model with the long pale pink dress she has awesome curves – there is a gorgeous curvy line from her waist to her hips.
I think when Mia has written “Yes, I am disappointed that there is no display of any curves whatsoever on Victoria’s catwalk” she’s bought into the whole ideal that curves = larger sizes.
loading...
she has curves they just aren’t made of fat!
I think she looks great and the collection was beautiful, simple and elegant.
something all women could wear- from Victoria Beckham to Oprah!! Very flattering and beautifully tailored garments, she has done an amazing job.
loading...
haha no not made of fat. made of plastic lol
loading...
I thought it was a gorgeous show, she looked so dedicated and the dresses were beautiful. I like that she is doing classical shapes, styles etc. I’d much rather earnest fashion that whacky for the sake there of.
loading...
As a short, petite person with a small waist, I love clothes that define and show it off. Now, if only I could afford it, or had anywhere to wear it!
loading...
love it
loading...
It looks like Posh is wearing one of her own dresses when she is sitting beside the catwalk and gosh doesn’t she look more chilled out and feminine that the fembot that she usually looks like.
Good on her…
