Channel 9’s The Block has purchased a new property for the next series of the smash reality show – but the property in question has a shocking history that might put off some viewers and probably buyers.

Sydney Confidential have reported that in 2002, a woman was raped and mutilated at the Hotel Saville by a self-proclaimed ‘vampire’ male prostitute.

One of the rooms inside the Hotel Saville.

The gigolo, 28-year-old Shane Chartres-Abbott, told the woman that he was a 200-year-old vampire who drank blood in order to retain his youth. The 30-year-old woman was found, bloodied, unconscious and naked in a bathroom in the hotel after the attack.

There was evidence she had been strangled and beaten, and there were bite marks and bruises on her body.

The ‘vampire’ male prostitute was gunned a year later in his front yard, and killed. It is thought that the three men who allegedly killed him did so as an act of revenge.

The Block bought the Hotel Saville, a South Yarra motel, for $7.3 million. Due to the street location, some have speculated that instead of building a series of boutique apartments, the next series of the show might focus on building a boutique hotel.

Hotel Saville will be the biggest property and site that The Block has taken on in its entire 11 seasons.
