Yes, we’re talking about football. Kind of. Stay with me.
The Super Bowl is on Feb 5, and it’s the biggest game of NFL in the US every year. And it’s also the biggest advertising event of the year.
It’s all about big names and big budgets. And this year 30 second slots during the broadcast are commanding prices upward of $3.5 million. Each.
Some advertisers have started to release their ads a few days before kick off – because, well, why wouldn’t they? – and here are some of the best that are on offer.
1. This Teleflora ad has copped criticism for being sexist.
2. This is one of the most anticipated ads. It’s Matthew Broderick back to his Ferris Bueller ways for “Matthew’s Day Off” in an ad for Honda.
2. Hello David Beckham. Here he is in the ad for his Bodywear line for H&M.
3. Jerry Seinfield for the Acura.
4. For the Twilight fans, this is Audi’s ad for its $200,000 S7.

You say the first video on the model was being regarded as ‘sexist’ but then 3 videos down you post one with the comment “Hello David Beckham.”
These videos are both using the exact same thing to market their products…. SEX!
Why? Because it works.
So feminists, don’t sit there and whinge about girls being sexualised in videos when you are doing the exact same thing to a man.

I think the sexist tag was more for the contents of the ad and the message communicated. ‘Just buy us something on Valentine’s Day and we’ll put out’. That’s how I interpreted that. Whereas the David Beckham ad is himself, modelling his own attire. Big difference!

Really wanted to love Ferris (’cause, who doesn’t?), but I found it a little cringe-worthy. Actually enjoyed watching the Seinfeld ad…perhaps because I assumed that would be the cringe-worthy one!

The Bueller one hands down (I’m biased as an all time fave flick is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off). The vampire one was pretty hilarious. You didn’t know what to expect.. yawn at the Seinfeld one (I’ve never been a fan though I did find Leno in a squirrel suit mildly amusing) and the Beckham one was tedious (how many pics have I seen him with this shirt off?)

My husband and I love the Super Bowl ads we watch them every year and my husband is a big fan of the NFL. I’ve become somewhat of a fan since moving to the US and look forward to see the ads on tv here live
