What to read this summer...?

I find it hard to read during the year – there’s too much going on with work and life and prime time TV – and I tend to read books sporadically and struggle to get past the first chapter.  Summer is the one time I can devote some time to read and read and read.

Problem is… I don’t have anything on my list! It’s blank. Can I have some recommendations from the MM community that I can pass on to Santa?

In return – here are a few books I’ve read recently.

The Other Hand by Chris Cleave I picked this up at the airport in KL a few weeks back and was done by the time I arrived back in Melbourne. It was just that good. It’s a beautiful story of two women – one a 16-year-old Nigerian asylum seeker, the other a high powered magazine editor in London.

The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides
I loved The Virgin Suicides and Middle Sex so when I found out Eugenides has written a new book, I literally ran down to the bookshop. It’s great, I didn’t love it as much as I loved the other – but still worth a read. It’s about three college seniors at Brown University in the ‘80s. It’s hard to believe one author could write three such different books….

And for a guilty pleasure? Anything by Lesley Lokko.

Now it’s your turn – what have you read lately that you’ve loved?
