IT'S OFFICIAL: Offspring is returning to our TV screens in 2016.

It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for and now it’s finally here.

Our favourite family is returning to our screens in 2016.

Network Ten released an official statement this morning confirming that Offspring has been commissioned for a sixth season to go to air in 2016.

The story of Nina Proudman and her daughter Zoe along with the rest of the dysfunctional Proudman family will continue from were they left off.

Australia’s favourite sweetheart Asher Keddie is set to return as the leading lady; her on-screen sister Kat Stewart as well.

Network Ten Chief Programming Officer, Beverley McGarvey, said: “It was no secret that we wanted to continue Nina’s adventures and we are thrilled to announce that Offspring will return to TEN for a sixth season in 2016.

“There are so many more chapters left in Nina’s life. We paused her story just as she had bravely navigated motherhood as a single parent rediscovering the joy and romance of life, while dealing with her fabulously messy family as they went about their unpredictable daily lives.”

Wait. Before you go any further, let’s relive the most HEART BREAKING moment of Offspring last year. (Post continues after video.)

“The strength and appeal of Offspring lies in the ability of its producers and writers to marry conventional narrative drama with flashbacks and fantasy sequences. We can’t wait to start production on the sixth season. We are very proud of everything that Offspring has achieved and we are very excited about bringing the new season to all Australians.”

Asher Keddie has hinted that Nina’s new relationship with Leo may not turn out exactly as the audience had hoped.

“It [relationship with Leo] was another stage in Nina’s life… but I never felt 100 per cent sure it was the be-all and end-all,” Keddie told Newscorp.

“Nina is never fully satisfied. She has that sort of personality. I think that gives us scope to move her journey along further.”

“For the last 18 months it has niggled me that we possibly weren’t quite finished,” she said.

Now let’s all let out a collective sigh of relief/squeal of excitement and get ready to participate in weekly Offspring parties around the country.
