FLUFF: Natalie Portman ad banned in the UK

A Natalie Portman mascara advertisement banned in the UK because her lashes are simply too long.

Check out this advertisement featuring Natalie Portman for Christian Dior’s Show New Look Mascara. The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority have banned the ad because they said it falsely implied “the mascara could lengthen the lashes, as well as separate them, increase their thickness and volume.”

And that’s just not true.

The Advertising Standards Authority said: “We were concerned that we had not seen evidence that the visual representation of the product’s effects on Natalie Portman’s lashes, as featured in the ad, could be achieved through use of the product only, particularly as we understood that post-production retouching on the lash area had taken place.”

Time for a hurrah?!

Dior admits they did use a computer to digitally retouch the image (well, duh!) They said alterations were made to “separate/increase the length and curve of a number of her lashes and to replace/fill a number of missing or damaged lashes, for a more stylised, uniform and tidy effect.”

The Huffington Post is reporting the single complaint was made by rival cosmetics company L’Oreal.

Taylor Swift and the many, many rumors. Everyone is talking about Taylor Swift’s alleged break-up with 18-year-old Connor Kennedy, who’s the son of Robert F Kennedy Jr. There are rumors everywhere. The world’s gone crazy.

But we’re not buying it until the couple confirms it (or Taylor sings about it, in which case we’d download it and sing along in the office.)

Instead, we’re bringing you this video. It’s Taylor on the Ellen DeGeneres show playing a game in which Ellen tries to convince Taylor to reveal the identity of the man who inspired her hit single ‘We are never getting back together.’

Nicole Kidman: ‘Eyes Wide Shut didn’t end my marriage to Tom’. In an essay for the Hollywood reporter, Nicole Kidman has denied rumours that the racy movie she starred in with Tom Cruise, Eyes Wide Shut, contributed to the breakdown of their marriage.

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut

“People thought that making the film was the beginning of the end of my marriage, but I don’t really think it was,” Kidman wrote. “Tom and I were close then, and it was very much the three of us. Onscreen, the husband and wife are at odds, and Stanley (the director) wanted to use our marriage as a supposed reality.”

She also said she struggled with some of the sex scenes in the movie and had to be coaxed into them by the film’s director, Stanley Kubrick.

“Stanley had to coax me into some of the sexuality in the film in the beginning, but we shot things that were a lot more extreme that didn’t end up in the movie. I did feel safe — I never felt it was exploitive (sic) or unintelligent. He was very different with women than he was with men. He has daughters, so he was very paternal with me.”

Red carpet of the week: the fun, the fab and the wtf.

Our views on Bond girls are mixed. Cons: They tend to be vapid, portrayed primarily as sex objects and don’t do any kick arse stuff like Bond himself. Pros: Times are a-changin’ and Bond girls are becoming more 3-dimensional with each addition to the franchise. And they wear awesome clothes.

Oh and did we mention the awesome clothes? Bond girls Bérénice Marlohe and Naomie Harris turned out for the Skyfall premiere this week. Naomie Harris wore a strapless (did we also mention completely see-through) Marios Schwab dress, while Bérénice Marlohe wore a floor-length Vivienne Westwood gown. Iconic bond girl, Shirley Eaton (now 75), who starred as Jill Masterson with Sean Connery in the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger, wore gold to this week’s premiere event.
