Madonna seems to be in the same boat that Marilyn Manson inhabits. They’ve both spent so long trying to shock people that it’s become more important to them than trying to entertain their fans. What makes it worse is it’s all the same old tired tricks that we’ve seen from them a thousand times before….it’s not shocking anymore, it’s just a bit stupid and pathetic. I’m not a big Madonna fan, but I have been a Manson lover for nearly 20 years, and the saddest thing is that you know if he just concentrated on the music, he’d do brilliantly. I’m sure Madonna’s listeners feel the same way about her. Don’t get me wrong, I think entertainers need to maintain their individuality, and they’ve both clearly traded well on their images for years. It’s just a shame that maintaining shock value holds a higher premium in their eyes than their music.

Madonna probably has over 30 years of her one precious life left. What has she done to deserve to be consigned to the scrapheap? She has every right to live it her way and to give the performances she wants for as long as she wants. She may well hang up her boots one day, but it isn’t today, and why should it be?
