Wow. Just spectacular. My Valentine directed by Paul McCartney and featuring Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp singing in sign language (ASL).

Oh, and Johnny Depp plays the guitar too.

    Is it just me, or did anyone else see that at times the camera doesn’t catch the signing (arm movements) see 1:00 for example, the singing says “my valentine ” however the video cross fades between Natalie portman and Johnny depp, with no signing. If someone is deaf and watching, how would they know? I’m not deaf, however I understand that AUSLAN is not just about the signing done by the hands but also a persons facial expressions and body language. I like the idea but I think it’s too artsy and kind of misses the point of using AUSLAN. But this is all IMHO, I would be interested to read what a deaf person thinks.

    I didn’t particularly like the song. But I have no doubt that it will be a hit as it’s by Paul McCartney. The video didn’t really grab me at all, either. Very artsy, if you like artsy.

      As he’s almost pushing 50, I’d happily give him that concession (and all manner of other things too …) but I still think he’s aging better than Clooney and Pitt.

    My daughter is hearing impaired and I love seeing things like this!

    Another good song signed is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv3tadz5Q3o but it’s not safe for work. A girl signed the song “forget you” by Cee Lo Green but used a different F word as a school assignment.

      Love it!! Love how she ‘signs’ “woowoo” too! I did baby sign with my son and recognise some of the Auslan, which is nice for me.

      Not too keen on the one above though only because they look so miserable. Sounds a bit miserable too.
