I haven’t watched this clip yet but your comment reminded me of an Irish comedian (maybe it was Ed Byrne? It was a looong time ago that I saw it) who does a whole ‘bit’ about Alanis and that song. Something along the lines of that she was ‘some bent Canadian girl who wouldn’t know irony if she fell over it’. He then dissects the song and goes through what would actually make each of the things she sings about ironic, rather than in his words ‘just plain bad luck’. It’s hilarious, but ever since then every single time I hear that song I can’t help but think of everything he said as she sings it!

A bit of a shame really as I quite liked the song – the comedy bit sucked most of the enjoyment out of it.

Your comment reminded me about it all over again and gave me a smile. He was just so passionate about how she had no clue what irony was that it was really funny to watch!
