Oprah on Tom’s couch this time. No jumping. Just a lot of self-justification and defensiveness.
Goodness, I find him scary. Controlling and scary.
Even in the second clip, Oprah seems very….stiff and like she’s not loving Tom. I think she sees through the whole performance.
BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!!!
After the jump, the begining of the show when Oprah arrives and is greeted by Tom and Katie. Holding hands. I do this a lot with my husband as we walk around the house. Sometimes it makes household tasks difficult to do – you know, with only one available hand – but WE’RE IN LOVE so it’s important to get that across.
A few points to note about this next clip:
1. The whole Katie appearance. She’s flawlessly groomed. That girl suddenly has amazing style. They should also win an Oscar for Most Spontaneous Performance By A Couple – note the bit where she says “I love you” to Tom several times before leaving to run an errand. They’re in LURVE, people. Doncha know it.
2. Note how Tom avoids Oprah’s question about how long he’s had the house. Best not to draw attention to the fact that THIS HOUSE IS WHERE HE MARRIED NICOLE KIDMAN.
3. The whole tour thing is fascinating. Tom Cruise is the biggest movie star in the world. He’s obviously in major damage control to open up his life like this.

Many years ago when I was too young and naive to know better, I was involved for a few months with a horribly controlling and abusive man. To the outside world he was a high powered accountant, smart, charming, good looking (you know the type) but behind closed doors he was a monster (no other word for it). He was also COMPLETELY obsessed with Tom Cruise, having even met him once, and he used to go on about him and how he “identified” with him. Now all these years later with the benefit of hindsight and maturity I look back and shudder, and I look at Tom Cruise and see SO many similarities with the man I dated, and think “yup, I bet I know what you’re like behind closed doors”. I hate to judge and I could be completely wrong but poor, poor Katie.

Of course it is fear. That’s exactly how scientology ensares you. The very first first “step” to becoming “clear” is to confess every past indiscretion to an “auditor”, who then dutifully files away the dirt file, ready to destroy your life should you ever say anything against the church. Just type “scientology” into youtube and watch those nuts go wild at anyone who dares challenge their “religion”.

I think in years to come someone will spill the beans about what Tom is really like.I worry about a person who has so much control over so many people. Nics silence on their relationship, I think is not of respect but a fear.

I honestly do not care if they are in love or not- plenty of people get married for reasons other than love. Their relationship has certainly benefitted both of them. That being said, Tom gives me a really unsettled feeling, he’s trying too hard to project himself as a ‘normal’ guy.
That house and that view though… whoa. I might marry him if I could live there.

I agree with most of what has been said about Tom & Kate, but what’s the deal with Oprah? Almost every time she asks a question, Tom starts to respond and she cuts him off! If she doesn’t want to talk to the guy, why is she there?

When I think of Katie Holmes, or any other 3rd wife, I cant help but think of it as temporary. I cant get out my head how he dumped his previous wives like ‘hot potatoes’ and cant imagine why Katie would take his promises and declararions of love seriously. Especially when he would have made the same promises to his other wives. She was obviously a smitten kitten in the beginning and not thinking clearly. Now she appears trapped and brainwashed – until he gets bored and dumps her. Hope for her sake its sooner rather than later.

Um, what does one say?
I get the feeling he is slightly mad, in that undiagnosable personality disorder kind of way.
My intuition about Katie is that she is very unhappy. I read somewhere that she comes from a normal, middle class home with loving, well-educated parents. So I imagine that the excesses and madness of her life must be quite unbearable. She does strike me as being a very loyal, good person.
My girlfriend works for a high profile rich family and she confirms the old adage that money doesn’t make you happy. They spend the whole time renovating, like once the house is done, they start all over and get interior decorators in to “update” every six months. The kids are brats and the mum is bored out of her brain and has no idea what to do with herself.
I think when I hear this stuff I thank god for being me. I thank god that my kids are told “no” alot. I thank god for the small pleasures of reading in bed together with my children.
I thank god that I’m not Katie Holmes!

Ok, Where do you start? Katie the Clone, who repeats what he says and is obviously groomed to Toms standards. I try so hard to want to believe these two really are in love, but they seem to try so hard at it. And that makes it hard to grasp. But then they knew the cameras were coming and that Oprahs interview would be seen by millions. Also why is Tom Cruise, the big movie star so inarticulate? Its like he struggles to get words out. It dosen’t flow like a normal conversation. This guy has spent years in front of people, doing interviews etc etc and still can’t string a normal sentence together?He is thinking about every single word and you can tell. I would love to like this couple, but it is so staged.
