It’s official (well, according to People magazine) that George Clooney and Stacy Keibler have split.

According to a friend of the couple it was Keibler who ended the relationship.

“Stacy called it quits. She wants to have children and a family someday. She knows where George stands on that,” a source close to the couple tells People exclusively. “They talked and they quietly stopped being a couple several weeks ago.”

The source also says Clooney, 52, and Keibler, 33, will remain on good terms: “They talk every day. They were friends before they started dating and they’ll be friends after. It was a friendly [breakup].”

The pair dated for two years and given Clooney’s bachelor reputation, we can’t say we didn’t see this one coming.

9. Someone builds a creepy giant Mr Darcy model emerging from a lake.

Sculptors have built and placed a 12-foot statue of Mr. Darcy emerging, dripping wet, from the water in the Serpentine Lake at Hyde Park in London to celebrate a new British TV channel.

The iconic scene from Pride and Prejudice (some would say best played by Colin Firth) won a poll that declared it the most memorable moment in the history of British dramas.

Sounds too good to be true, right… well…

Not the original but Elliot Cowan … and dare we say it, even better than Firth?

Oh, alright then….

 10. Cronuts, Crookies and an escalating pastry war.

If you’re a foodie or pastry enthusiast by now you’ve probably heard about Cronuts, the croissant/donut hybrid created by chef, Dominique Ansel that is taking over the world, well okay, taking over one bakery in New York.

According to those reporting from the Cronut front line, the insanely high demand has meant Ansel has had to place some strict regulations on the fried bakery treat that takes three days to make.

“Lines form outside the bakery on 189 Spring St as early as 2 hours prior to opening (8 a.m. from Mon-Sat and 9 a.m. on Sun). Plus, to ensure that the first customers don’t buy out all the Cronuts, Ansel has placed a limit of two Cronuts per person. The treats sell for a pretty penny — $5 a piece. Still, they’re selling like wildfire.

“According to Fox News, Cronuts are selling for up to $40 a pop on a black market. According to the Huffington Post, one craigslist entrepreneur even posted that he offers “professional line waiters to save you time and get your much deserved cronut,” but for a steep price of $80 a piece. Please, someone, reassure me it’s not worth it.”

But the word on the street is that the bakery war has escalated.

And now the Cronut has it’s first formidable opponent in the Crookie.

The Crookie – a croissant with an Oreo cookie – was invented by Clafouti Patisserie & Cafe in Canada after local blog The Grid asked local bakeries to come up with inventive hybrid desserts.

The Grid described the concoction as “Part classy French pastry, part trashy American junk food.”

One thing’s for sure, there’s only one winner in an escalating pastry war… we, the public.
