Taylor Swift wrote a song and John Mayer got angry.
Mayer recently told Rolling Stone he was humiliated by a song written by his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift, who he dated back in 2009. The song is called Dear John and John Mayer is rumoured to be the inspiration behind it. The lyrics include “dark, twisted games” and a “sick need to give love and take it away.”

Of the song, Mayer said: “It made me feel terrible…‘ I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.” “I was really caught off guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down.”
Mayer accused Swift of “cheap songwriting” saying, “”I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anybody’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!’ That’s bullshit.”

Alright – I am going to stand up in defence of John on this one. Regardless of whether you are a Taylor Swift fan, or just don’t like John Mayer’s personality – he is actually an exceptionally talented guitarist, as many who actually play guitar will know and express.
Sure, have a dig at him if he did in fact do anything wrong, but don’t deny the fact that he is talented and successful.

I’m definitely not a fan of Taylor Swift so my comments aren’t in ‘support’ of her – I just think John Mayer is completely over-rated, has little real talent and I’d rather watch paint dry than listen to him play, or sing, or do anything for that matter! And while I don’t play guitar myself, I’d definitely say I’m a guitar music enthusiast – everything from classical through to hard rock – but I still don’t see the big deal with Mayer! Sorry, just my own opinion!

I agree too. John Mayer has all the grace and charm of a smack in the face as a person, however, as a life-long guitar music lover, saying he’s untalented is just plain wrong. Some may not dig him, but to deny his skill is just vindictive.
That being said, Woohoo! Go Taylor! It’s about time he copped a serve musically for his misdeeds. He’s nothing if hypocritical when he hasn’t held back in using his conquests for musical inspiration, the charming lyrics of “Another You” immediately come to mind. So suck it up, John dearie.

While none of us know what really went on, I bet its fair to say that he probably deserved it if his other womanising is anything to go by. Taylor is pretty young and that song came out a long time ago now, so she was even younger then… when you get hurt at a young age it is heavily amplified by emotions so even if the song wasn’t probably the most high road, it certainly doesn’t mean he should not even try to take some of the responsibility. She would have been like, what? 19, when that song came out? It came out before I even began dating my ex which was around 2009… so…

I understand how he feels. Years ago a man that I dated for a short time wrote a hurtful song about me called “(my name), you’re still a cunt”. He wrote it because he was angry that I didn’t want to continue dating him. We were both musicians doing to pub circuit at the time, it was humiliating hearing that song played and everyone knowing it was about me.

Dear John, suck it up. Taylor Swift, like most song writers, writes about what she knows – so what do you expect from someone who is only 22. I barely know of him and immediately thought the song sounded like him so that’s not saying much of him (or how he is portrayed in the media anyway). Shame he is such a dweeb when he has such a beautiful voice and writes so many great songs. That’s just my opinion though.
