We recorded the announcement of the birth below but now, check out the first pictures released by the family. Beyonce and Blue’s dad Jay-Z don’t appear to have sold the images, choosing to release them instead on a Tumblr they set up especially for the occasion.

Here are the pics:

Beyonce and Blue Ivy Carter

And here’s how we initially heard the news:

Here’s the full statement from Beyonce and Jay Z:

“Hello Hello Baby Blue!

We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012.   Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs and it was the best experience of both of our lives.     We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.

Beyoncé & JAY Z”

Beyonce is the mother to a baby girl named Blue Ivy Carter.

Hard to believe that I am so excited about the birth of a baby I will never meet. But I do so love a good news story and I am quite giddy with happiness for Beyonce and Jay-Z. (Added to which I have sort of been waiting to put up this news for at least two weeks since rumours of the birth of the baby first emerged)

According to E! online

Beyoncé and Jay-Z welcomed a daughter Saturday night in New York, the little one’s arrival coming via scheduled C-section, mutliple sources confirm to E! News

And the pop ‘n’ hip-hop princess’ name? Drumroll, please…

Blue Ivy Carter! (At least that’s what Jay-Z is telling pals at this point—the couple’s reps have not immediately responded to calls seeking comment.)

Friend and music mogul Russell Simmons was among the first to celebrate the arrival, tweeting the new parents: “congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z.”

Rihanna gave baby Ivy a warm welcome, tweeting: “Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih.

Remember the song she performed at the MTV Video Music Awards when she announced she was pregnant?

I’m a huge fan of Beyonce and was very excited to here this news!!

Its funny, I’m pregnant and a week over due with my second (still waiting!!) and one of the names I have picked out is Carter (if its a boy though!) – is this the beyonce’s babies last name or part of the middle name?

Carter is the baby’s last name as Jay-Z’s real name is Shawn Corey Carter.

A good friend of mine named her baby Carter, it’s a gorgeous name.

Some confusion about the name? E! is now reporting the name is Blue Ivy Carter… http://au.eonline.com/news/happy_bday_beyonceacute_jay-z_welcome/284799

Very classy and tasteful name, as seems to be the case with (almost) everything Beyonce and Jay Z do.

Like you Lana I am strangely happy for them, never really into celebrities but Beyonce is geniunley talented, not celebrity for celebritys sake and they seem like such a lovely couple.

There are so many rumors she wasn’t actually pregnant and had someone else carrying her child. There was a huge reaction that she was faking it because when she did an interview her stomach “collapsed” and people were saying she used a fake bump/pillow/padding.

I’m sorry but in what world is Blue a “proper” name?

I’m over the whole love affair with Beyonce, the way she announced she was pregnant was such a “look at me” moment and the obsession with her since, anyone would think she was the first woman to reproduce.

Let’s see how much you all love her when she becomes one of those celebrities touting their “fabulous post baby” bodies mere weeks after giving birth.

Ouch! Kill joy! Beyonce has always had a voluptuous, curvy womanly figure that she’s been proud of – not known for being a thin/diet crazed respect. Think you’re being hasty…and a tad mean

Beyonce is one of the few celebrities I actually care for. Mostly because she’s the antithesis of most of them. She does her own thing, always has. More power to her.

There’s heaps of stories online about Jay-Z & his mistresses (that’s how Rihanna got her start), including a couple of love children out there. He’s not perfect by any means.

That doesn’t make him a bad person though. If Beyonce’s cool with it in their relationship, what’s the problem if he has other kids?

LOVE the name Ivy, it was in our toss up at our daughters birth 12 weeks ago. As much as I love it I’m glad we didn’t go with it now. Too close to a celebrity choosing to use it. You’re lucky, you got in WELL in advance, you’re safe!

I’m guessing it will become quite popular now. The same thing happened with my eldest daughter’s name (Mia Josephine). We named her Mia a few years before Bec and Lleyton Hewitt used the name and soon after they did it became the most popular. We hardly knew any Mias and now they’re everywhere! Like Isabella it’s a beautiful name though so no regrets… :-)

My daughter’s name is Ivy. We thought it was sweet, not overused and still easy to say/spell.

There are so many Ivys now, but I don’t regret the name choice.

These days the top names are more diverse. Even if Ivy is a popular name, she probably won’t have half a class full of Ivys, like at my school we had 5 Rebeccas.
