Meet the Janoskians.

If you haven’t heard of them yet, you probably will soon. They’ve notched up more than 10 million views on YouTube recently – filming themselves playing practical jokes on strangers.

This is the most popular of the videos. It’s called Awkward Train Situations.

The 5 teenagers from Melbourne – brothers Jai, Luke and Beau, and friends James and Danie – describe themselves as “boy band One Direction without the singing”.

They’re not quite there, but they’re certainly on their way. Their Facebook page has almost 100,000 likes. And at a meet and greet in Melbourne last week, the group was mobbed by so many screaming teenage girls, the police had to step in.

They’ve been compared to Justin Beiber (it’s the hair) and recently their antics caught the eye of Beiber’s manager, who tweeted a link to Ellen DeGeneres.

Here they are completing Ellen’s Dance Dare – a segment of the Ellen DeGeneres show where she asks people to send though videos of themselves dancing behind people who don’t know they’re there.

What do you think of the Janoskians?

To be honest I do not like the Janoskians. Only because they are the most terrible role models. If they want to be famous they need to stop making jokes that are disgusting. There fan base is like young 10-13 year olds and recently they got everyone retweeting “Rapedbyaslothanditwasamazing”.This went world wide and the Janoskians thought it was funny. Rape? really ? the Janoskians are suppose to be what? in there 20′s, and they are making immature jokes about rape that all there young fans retweeted thinking it was cool. That is truly sick! The janoskians need to man up and be professional

If you ask a teenage girl why she likes them she’ll say its because they are hilarious. Then you watch their vids and they are well, a bit amusing but hardly ROFL, more like kids mugging for the camera. But they are cute and i guess they kind of appeal to the teenage idea that you can be famous without needing much/any talent on the back of social media.

Imagine you are a teenager, who actually has a talent and continually tries and tries to become noticed and with improve skills just to make a living. Mean while you get a bunch of five idiots who only try for the fame and money, who have no talent and/or skills to even present and yet become famous, earn the money and be arrogant in the process. I actually know these guys and 4 out 5 actually went to my school. I know how really arrogant they are and how greedy they are for the fame and money.

I know people who put all their all into becoming something, and it really is like spitting in their faces when you get people like these who take things really far.

Yes, you can call me a ‘hater’ all you like, but remember two things I have met them, talked to them for several years, I know what they are like and I know how thy act. Secondly, being one the people myself who actually tries my hardest to make a ‘valid’ contribution to the community, who actually improves my skills, relationships and what not, I really feel ashamed by everyone who can like what they are doing.

Really? They’re not funny, they’re annoying and a little aggressive. They don’t have comedic timing and don’t read their audience well at all. This is all about them getting exposure at the expense of unsuspecting commuters just for their own benefit.

I think the singing is funny…can’t believe no one on the train even cracked a smile.

But the other stuff, like the barking, lying under the seat etc. made me too uncomfortable to laugh. It’s because that kind of thing happens for real on public transport all the time, and it’s often young guys doing that to be threatening to others. I think the pranks would be funny to someone else, or in another context, but having been on public transport a lot it doesn’t really tickle my funny bone.

But I appreciate the effort. Love the singing ones, loved the man giggling while the guy is making faces at him.

I am the type of person who would get stuck on a train carriage with someone doing some of those weird things for real.

But, the scenes with the boys dancing and singing…. they’re just fun and harmless. How could you not crack a smile and have a bit of laugh. Seriously, all those commuters pretending like there is nothing going on at all… they are the ones who need to get a life I think.

I found this really funny! My 17 year-old brother is exactly like these boys! He brings so much light into my family and extended family’s lives. He always has us in stitches :) .

They’re not harming anyone. They are just trying to make people smile.

Oh dear I am now officially old! All I can think about is: I hope those kids got permission to air all of those peoples faces… I know many people who would be threatening legal action for taking video of them without asking!!!

Well they went out seeking their 15 minutes and they’ve got it.

As for the screaming teenage girls, words fail me. They all deserve each other.

I feel sorry for kids with real talent who would die for all that misplaced attention.

They are a bunch of boys with too much time on their hands and should be guided into something better. If they laid in front of me while I was getting off an escalator (terrifies me illogically) then I would kick them in the genitalia. Just saying..

Being hillarious doesn’t teach anybody any value whilst there are more serious issues in the world needs attention from young brains. Go dance and help the poor Or do something that your country can be proud of is better than being Self-centered and make yourself looks cheap. Open your eyes and look at what other third world countries children and the Asian kids are doing right now. They are constantly learning hard to be better person to make their country better. Is that all the Australian kids can do? Come on…!

meh…kids being idiots…great!! i wish people that cure disease and do volunteer work could get this sort of celebrity! i saw on tv the other night these kids laying down at the bottom of an escalator.as someone on crutches this stresses me out! if i had to try to get around them i would injure myself quite badly! or what if an elderly person with not very good mobility came down the escalator…they r idiots and people need to stop making idiots famous! we have enough morons making millions for being dickheads

Half of me finds them a bit funny.

The other half cringes. I’m a teenager and there is no way I would ever do this. It definitely shows their immaturity, although I do chuckle. Its a cheap way to laugh. I’ve been watching the Janoskians on Youtube for a while now and I enjoy their videos – minus DareSundays. I think Dare Sundays is stupid.

These kids are going to look back at these videos in 5 years and cringe. I can’t see how posting multiple videos of yourself behaving crudely in public, swearing, and making fun of people behind their backs is going to have a positive influence on your future. It is going to be very hard for these boys to get a job now that they have associated their names with this behaviour. Sometimes they are funny, but like most teenage boys they take it too far.
