'Last night, my partner played a cruel prank on me. I'm not sure I can forgive him.'

Pranking your significant other is all fun and games until your relationship is destroyed irreparably.

Sadly, one poor woman discovered this unfortunate fact when her partner of seven years carried out what could be the world’s cruelest prank, with her as its sole victim.

“I’m so devastated and hurt,” the anonymous Reddit user began.

“Everyone is telling me to lighten up and that this prank is ‘hilarious’, but I’m so upset.”

Her boyfriend’s genius (read: really, really awful) prank idea? To fake his own death.

“I was waiting at his mum’s house last night, waiting for him to come home from work so we could go out to dinner,” she wrote.

“That’s when I received a call from the police saying that he died in a car crash.”

If you think it sounds bad so far, just wait – because it gets so much worse.

“I was sitting there crying for two hours, and his family was comforting me,” the Redditor continues. “That’s when he comes home with flowers and people start taking videos of him. He and his family all started laughing while I was crying my eyes out.”

While the woman says she is “absolutely broken”, and doesn’t know if she can forgive her partner, he doesn’t seem to understand her point of view.

“I’ve tried to tell him how wrong this was, but he just laughs and says it was the greatest prank ever done. Am I overreacting?”

Um, HELL NO SISTER! That is the douchelordiest of douchelord pranks to pull on someone, and your boyfriend needs to get that through his gobsmackingly thick skull.

Unsurprisingly, plenty of commenters were quick to condemn the boyfriend and his horrible prank, too.

"If my husband pulled something like this I'd be livid," wrote one Redditor.

"There's a big difference between a fun little April fools prank and making your loved one think you were dead for two hours."

Many, many others agreed.

"You experienced real emotions and real grief," wrote a second person.

"Your boyfriend owes you A HUGE APOLOGY among other things. It was thoughtless, careless, and cruel of your boyfriend and his family to even do this."

"You were crying for two hours in front of them. His family saw your raw pain, and they didn't for a second think 'hey, maybe we shouldn't make her suffer for hours?'... WOW."

But perhaps the most on-point advice to the traumatised woman was this: "Break up with him for two hours, then say April Fool's and take him back. Then break up with him for real."

AMEN.

What's the cruelest prank you've been the victim of?
