The phrase ‘two are better than one’ can be applied to lots of things in life. Like slices of cake. Or puppies. Or, well, shoes.
But two wedding ceremonies? That just sounds like a lot of effort, not to mention $$$.
However, the double wedding appears to be something of a trend in Hollywood – and the latest star to jump on the bandwagon is Gossip Girl‘s Penn Badgley.
You might recall seeing reports in February that the actor had wed his partner Domino Kirke (yes, the sister of Girls star Jemima). The Manhattan courthouse ceremony was attended by friends and family and was, by all accounts, a lovely event:

I know lots of people who have done this. One was getting married overseas, but doing the legal stuff in Australia was easier than trying to manage the legal stuff in Thailand. So registry wedding here, followed by the ceremony in Thailand. I know another that did a "hand fasting" ceremony at home, but didn't arrange a celebrant etc. Made it legal at the courthouse a few years later, but count the original ceremony as their wedding.
Yup, I also know couples that have done the opposite! Married in a foreign country for visa reasons, then had a proper ceremony back home with family, friends etc.
A double wedding, by definition, is where two couples get married at once in the same ceremony and reception - like in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Or my grandmother and her sister back in 1950 to my grandfather and his twin brother.
