SPOILER ALERT!

What the hell happened on Homeland last night?

SPOILER ALERT!

SPOILER ALERT!

SPOILER ALERT!

If you don’t want to know what happened in the Homeland, do not read any further. (And it’s probably not a good idea to read the comments on this post either.)

While the season may have gotten off to a slow start, last night’s Homeland finale had us sitting on the edge of our seats and definitely requiring a red wine afterwards.

The finale moved along at lightening speed, tying up loose ends and climaxed in the killing off of tortured soul Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis). The ex-Marine turned terrorist turned ‘hero’ concluded with Brody’s death for his assassination of Akbari, the head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

Homeland’s Exective Producer told The Hollywood Reporter what it was like to rip off the proverbial Band-Aid: “We’re in the enviable but terrifying position of starting again.”

EP: At what point did you know this episode would be the end point for Brody?

THR: It was one of the very first decisions that was made in the story room this season. Sometime in January, we started to talk about this being the season that Brody would not survive — but the manner and the exact method of his death were things that we did not decide until sometime in September. We knew his shelf life had expired but didn’t know exactly how [his death] would take place.

The finale has us eagerly awaiting Homeland season 4 with Saul (Mandy Patinkin) who is now out of the CIA and an eight-month pregnant Carrie assigned to the Istanbul bureau.

If you caught the season finale last night, let us know what you thought in the comments below.
