The FBI and Apple sai they are looking into the matter of leaked nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence and 100 other celebrities.

The agency said in a statement it was “aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the matter.”

Apple spokesperson Nat Kerris told NBC News: “We take user privacy very seriously and are actively investigating this report.”

A series of nude photos allegedly depicting Jennifer Lawrence has been leaked on Twitter.

Hollywood Gossip reports the photos — which appear to show the 24-year-old Oscar-winning actress in various stages of undress — were leaked by an anonymous source, who is said to have 60 explicit images of her.

The star of The Hunger Games has earned a reputation for her down-to-earth attitude and candid interviews, and has been revered across the world for being a “regular” celebrity.

As a result, questions are circulating online as to their authenticity, and who is responsible for leaking the photos.

Are these photos actually of Jennifer Lawrence?

Lawrence’s spokespeople have confirmed the photos are real. They told TMZ: “This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence.”

Since this story broke, a number of Twitter accounts posting uncensored photos of Jennifer Lawrence pictured nude have been suspended.

Who leaked them?

The pictures were leaked by an anonymous hacker who originally posted J-Law’s images on the photo-sharing website 4chan. The hacker was alleged to be sharing the photos in exchange for bitcoins – a digital form of transferring money that doesn’t involve a central bank.

The photos were allegedly retrieved due to an iCloud leak that allowed celebrities’ phones to be hacked, according to Buzzfeed.

Was Jennifer Lawrence the only one targeted by the hacker?

TMZ reports the photos were leaked on Sunday as ‘part of what appears to be a massive celebrity hacking campaign’ that has also targeted celebrities including Teresa Palmer, Amber Heard, Kirsten Dunst, Ariana Grande and Kate Upton.

Horror movie actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has also lashed out at the hacker over Twitter when her nude photos surfaced today.

She wrote: “To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves. Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked.”

However, not all the celebrities targeted are confirming the validity of these photos.

Singer/Actress Ariana Grande’s rep told Just Jared Jr that these photos “are fake”, and TV star Victoria Justice has taken to Twitter with the same sentiment, saying:
