We get blonde expert Deborah Grevett to spill all her hair secrets.

A bit of a legend among the blonde population of Sydney, Deborah Grevett has carved out a formidable reputation for her natural, healthy, and safe blonde colourwork among clients who range from naturally dark, to freakishly blonde (that’s me).

Deb is the owner and head stylist of Papillon Hair in Paddington, and is the Pied Piper to her legion of fans, who consider her ‘the expert’ when it comes maintaining beautiful blonde hair. There was even a full Vogue Forum chat dedicated to her when some hapless blonde dared ask – ‘who does the best blonde in Sydney?’

Welcome to the secret studio of blonde expert, Deborah Grevett.

Like a secret club, I was first introduced to Deb by another blonde, who heard my call for help. And it was literally a call for help: after almost 12 years of colouring my hair, it was dry, damaged, and snapping off.

Deb to the rescue.

Using all natural/vegan products from O&M (Original Mineral) haircare - which I use, and are divine - Deb makes sure that all her clients walk out with a colour that is keeping with your natural tones, and a cut that you can 'wash, and run out the door'. Perfect.

We sat down for a chat last week as I had my hair done.

Deborah Grevett.

What makes you so great at blonde hair?

"Being a blonde myself, I know blonde hair well. I personally have gone many different shades of blondes, so have had first hand experience. Plus, Sydney is home to both blondes AND the beach - so I've had a lot of practise at creating blonde, healthy hair that won't damage."

There are many different shades of blonde. What colour is best for different hair types?

"Depending on the client's natural shade of hair, and their skin tones - then you would determine what shade to use. For example, for olive skin and black hair, you would lift to a dark blonde, like Jessica Alba. You need to always be combining different levels of blonde, so it looks natural."

So someone with black hair should give up their dream of platinum hair?

"Uh, yep! Unless they want to make like Kim Kardashian and be in the salon every four weeks... and she wears wigs anyway. There would be a lot of maintenance: you would need to treat it constantly with Olaplex, protein, and moisture treatments. I mean, it's always possible, but I would advise my client against it."

We are sharing so many tips and all the things the Papillon girls get up to this week on our Facebook page and Instagram. So be sure to like our Facebook and keep updated with much more! Deborah Grevett is an expert in blonde hair colouring (AKA one of Sydney's best blonde colourists), and her focus is creating super wearable, natural blondes. Here our wonderful client Harriet had a full head of natural highlights. It's nice to do a full head of foils opposed to all the balayage that is so popular right now, but of course we love all techniques in the colour world! Enjoy and have fun! ???? #papillonhair #blondeexpert#foils#highlights#balayage #babylights#ombre#sombre #sydneyhairstylist #paddington#happyclient

How often should a blonde be getting a trim? Is it possible to have healthy, long, blonde hair? I feel like that's just an urban legend.

"It is possible to have longer, healthy, blonde hair! You just need to avoid hair breakage by using Olaplex, and getting regular 'health' trims to stop the hair splitting further.

Also - make sure your stylist is never overlapping the colour in the ends, because this will make the hair literally break off - it's double bleaching, and hair can only take so much."
