Warning for all women: The "coat hook" device being used by perverts.

There’s a new way perverts are exploiting women.

Last year, police in Florida received reports of hidden cameras, disguised as coat hooks, being placed in public bathrooms, typically found on the inside of the door.

The tiny cameras at the top of the devices capture sound and motion, and some are even motion-activated, which means when someone collects them at the end of the day, they don’t have to sit through hours of footage to find images of some unknowing victim going about their business in a public toilet.

And as Bustle reports, the cameras, which are sold as ‘home security devices’ online, only cost around US$13 ($17 AUD) – meaning it’s very cheap and easy for perverts to set up their own camera.

Now, they’re being bought across the world, and are thought to be fixated in countless public bathrooms without women’s knowledge.

The cameras have recently been found in the UK and Luke Whiting, a 21-year-old man from Suffolk, was recently banned from all McDonald’s stores after he was found guilty of installing cameras in the female bathroom at the restaurant where he worked.

Whiting was caught after his female colleague spotted the device while she was using the toilet during one of her shifts.

This is the 'coat hook' device every woman needs to look out for:

Although there have been no reports of this type of activity in Australia, social media sites like Reddit mean perverts can share their tips online more easily and, most importantly, anonymously.

This means there could be cameras installed in public toilets around the country without warning.

Tell the women in your life what to look out for and, if you see a "coat hook" in a public women's toilet, notify authorities immediately.
