1. An 11-year-old boy has been jailed for the murder of his 8-year-old neighbour.

An 11-year-old boy from Tennessee has been jailed for eight years for the murder of an 8-year-old girl.

The boy was found guilty of first-degree murder for shooting MaKayla Dyer in the chest after she refused to let him play with her puppy, according to sentencing documents.

The court heard the children lived in the same mobile home park when the boy approached Dyer, her 11-year-old sister and another young girl. When they refused to bring their puppies to him, he left and returned with a 12-gauge shotgun and a BB gun.

He will remain incarcerated until his 19th birthday.

2. Burkina Faso militants free Australian woman.

An Australian woman has been freed after being kidnapped by an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group in Burkina Faso, according to neighbouring Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou.

Jocelyn Elliott was reportedly presented at a news conference by Mr. Issoufou in Dosso, Niger and told journalists authorities were working hard to secure the release of her husband, Dr. Ken Elliot.

Al-Qaeda said on Friday it had kidnapped the couple and would release the woman  due to public pressure and guidance from al-Qaeda leaders not to involve women in war.

The Perth couple were kidnapped on January 15 and had been living in Burkina Faso since the 1970s, providing medical relief to people in the remote northern area of the country.

3. India deports suspected Australian IS supporter.

An Australian man has been deported from India after security officers reportedly found there were “strong indications” he could be an Islamic State supporter.

Malay-Australian Ahmad Fahim Bin Hamad Awang arrived at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday night after flying in from Perth and was immediately detained for questioning, The Indian Express has reported.

Security officers allegedly found IS propaganda on Mr. Awang’s laptop, as well as other images where he is posing with firearms after receiving a tip- off.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced last night it had been made aware that an Australian man had been deported from the country.

4.Deadly earthquake topples buildings in Taiwan.

At least 11 people have been killed and more than 20 are missing after a deadly earthquake hit the south Taiwanese city of Tainan.

The magnitude 6.4 quake struck just before 4:00 am yesterday (7:00 am AEST) when most people were at home asleep.

Rescuers have worked through the night to free victims amid fears at least 20 people remain trapped beneath the rubble.

ABC News are reporting more than 400 people were injured, with 100 still in hospital across Tainan and surrounding counties.

5.  Second case of Zika virus confirmed in Queensland.

A child has been confirmed as the second victim of the Zika virus in Queensland.

The child was diagnosed after presenting to a Brisbane hospital with symptoms following a family trip to Samoa.

It is the second case confirmed within 24 hours, after a woman on the Gold Coast was diagnosed after returning from El Salvador.

The latest cases come two days after health experts met in Queensland to ensure the state could respond to any potential outbreak of the virus.
