“Help, my snoring is ruining my marriage”

How much do you share with your partner?

How much do you share with your partner?

Do you ever wake in the middle of the night with a start at the loud sounds of sleeping coming from your partner? What about yourself – do you wake others with the sound of your own snoring?  Mamamia reader Michelle writes:

“I never used to snore much – only when I lay on my back, or after too many drinks.  But when I was pregnant with my first child I started to snore.  Apparently it’s very common in pregnancy.  Unfortunately the snoring never left after my son was born, and it has escalated to the point where I now sleep in the spare room full time. I don’t feel as connected to my husband any more. We’re definitely less affectionate, and almost never have sex any more.

Snoring is so antisocial.  I refused to share a room on a recent girls’ weekend away because I knew I wouldn’t sleep a wink for worrying I’d keep my roomie awake.

My GP says I have a badly deviated septum and basically only major invasive surgery will help, but even that’s not guaranteed to fix the problem. I don’t want to have any more surgery, so I stay in the spare room, which I hate.

I never thought I’d be plagued by snoring as a young-ish woman (it started when I was 36, I’m now 40), I figured it might happen to people as they got, you know, old!

I’d love to hear from others who are in a similar situation – I’m really down about this and would appreciate the support!!”
